In the above post, the BBR roo is a one of the second year saipans from ideal. Pretty gentle and reasonable, but was an extra roo, so went to the freezer. You can see compared to the barred sex link, how much bigger he is, as the barred is very fluffy, while he is all muscle.
The yellow...
I just took some yesterday! The first is a pullet who is about four months old-She is actually a bit more graceful and upright than seen in the picture, quite elegant. A bit wary but not as spastic as the leghorns.
The chicks are the red saipan-leghorn cross and the black sapian-black jersey...

These are saipan/dark Brahma crosses. You can see how big they are by comparing to the dark Brahma hen in the background who is the same age-note she is loose feathered while they are tight feathered, thus even larger than they look! Their dad...
I have ordered from Cackle three years in a row and been happy each time. I live in Texas so have two day shipping.
The first year was some exotics and OEGs, the second some Cochins and dark Bhramas and this year, 100 fryers and 20 brown leghorns as well as more Cochins and dark brahmas as...
Ive ordered for three years from cackle and always been happy. Chicks arrive very healthy and are often better representatives of breed than from other hatcheries.
Really bummed about my ideal order. I ordered 20 chicks of saipan and blue red cubalaya and 12 died. Upon arrival all were dehydrated and weak. Orders from cackle hatchery always have been healthy. I love the variety at ideal but wont reorder again from them.
I was on my phone so it was a bit hard to do more than post the pics!
Other things I noted about the siapans:
They seem VERY sensitive to the cold weather. I live in Austin and we had a cold snap into the high 20's for one night and I found a roo and hen dead the next day. I brought the...
This is a rooster from ideal i got last year at a local feed store. I had four but lost two to a cold snap and the hawks grabbed the largest. They are very tame and sweet, and while they dominate the other roosters are not overly game. One looked shamo like but the other two roos seemed to be...
