We have three Black Copper Marans, and we recorded each of their first-egg dates -- surprisingly, it wasn't what many internet searches were saying! We blogged it all here, in detail, in case it helps a bit. :) (Link below, too.)

I know that this is an oder thread, but just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your girl. We had a similar experience -- didn't know what to do. If you still continue to have chickens, there's a good likelihood you'll run into it again. :/ We did. This year we read every...
After losing a chicken to sour crop last year, this year we read every single post from every single forum about sour crop cures, and used the info to develop our method when one of our newer chicks came down with it as well. She was cured in about 5 days, and has been sour crop free for a week...
I'm shocked by how many people immediately recommend culling due to this deformity. No, they shouldn't be bred, but having a crossbeak chicken can be highly productive and they are even valuable for specific jobs that "normal" chickens can't do.
I'm so jealous of all the pinkish eggs on here.. I'm tempted to get 'lorps to try and add that color to our collection. We actually made a whole video on our Easter Egger egg colors, laying ages, and their progress at 8 months old. I swear this is the most fun breed!
Just thought I'd post a little 6-month update. Our Easter Egger colors totally changed, even since the last video was posted. I feel pretty confident in saying now that there is NO way to tell what they'll look like as an adult from chicks! I wonder if there is a totally separate set of genetics...
We have two dogs -- a Border Collie and a young shepherd/beagle/border collie mix. Both are rescues, and both have been trained to coexist with our 12 pullets.
I will let the birds out to free range for a couple hours during the day, and the Border Collie loves helping herd the chickens back...
Totally agree with everyone else! I was worried my minimalist chicken coop ramp would be too steep, but after a little enticing, our girls use it just fine. We actually wrote a blog post about how it's been working out.
I totally just winged ours with scrap we had laying around. It's pretty steep, but our girls use it just fine, and having a shorter ramp saved space. I actually wrote a whole blog post about the design & how it's worked out, which you can view by clicking here!
Apparently we are seriously late to the party, but we started tracking our 12 Easter Egger chicken colors via YouTube! Only one video update right now: growth & color development/comparison from Day 4 to Day 24, but we're planning on updating again every couple weeks or so! Hopefully this helps...
Hello! I know it's been years since this was posted, but I live right by Muskego, and I'm wondering -- how did this go? I'd love to get the chicken ordinances changed in our little neighboring town. :)
Awesome work! Keep it up!
