Sour crop??? Help!!!

We decided just to bury her. We found a small box, wrapped her in a pink towel and told her goodbye. I just feel like a failed her. She is the first chicken we have lost out of this flock. But we have 9 other beautiful hens to look after and she is probably loving roaming the hills of heaven looking for worms!
Don't feel like you failed her. It seems chickens are vulnerable to many ailments we can do nothing about even if we know what it is right away. As prey animals they try to hide evidence of illness until it is too late. We try to help anyway and sometimes succeed when the condition is treatable.

I'm sure your time together produced some wonderful moments to remember. A short life is no less worthy, imo. It's still sad at first:hugs

No big deal about being hijacked! We are all here to help one another.

My barred was doing do well, eating normal, pooping normal, acting like her old self. Unfortunately this morning my hubby found her in her nest box and she had passed. We think she may have had an underlying issue that caused the crop issue and her early passing.
what were her symptoms before the sour crop? I should have realized when my beautiful Blakey was not really going for the treats and so very much watery poo. I thought they had found more cherry tomatoes . She wa the gift all.:hit

She really didn't have any. She went from being her normal self to all the sudden wanting to be alone. We thought it was just her finishing her molt nut we were wrong.

I know that this is an oder thread, but just wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your girl. We had a similar experience -- didn't know what to do. If you still continue to have chickens, there's a good likelihood you'll run into it again. :/ We did. This year we read every single post from every single forum about sour crop cures, and used the info to develop our method when one of our newer chicks came down with it as well. She was cured in about 5 days, and has been sour crop free for a week now, so we went ahead and made a YouTube video detailing exactly what we did to make it go away. I'll embed the video below. I'm also attaching the blog post with all the notes & directions that are in the video, since it can move kind of fast. Just in case you need it in the future.

I hope this helps someone. Sour crop is so awful when left untreated, so we were very relieved to see it go away completely, and now feel much more prepared for the next time we have to deal with it.
