Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

The two eggs in one day would both have hard shells. The first would usually have a heavy white bloom and the second would usually be a bit misshapen- either really pointy on one end or slightly flat on one side. It is like she holds her egg in, then it comes out by accident in weird locations...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I I am finding more scabs every time I handle her :-( I found some on the skin over her crop that look similar to under her vent, but her wing feathers also seem to be coming out of crusty black follicles. I am stumped and feeling so discouraged. I did put her on oral antibiotics- all I had...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I am in northwestern Tennessee. She made one trip to the nest box about 5 days ago and did not lay, which is pretty normal for her- she often sits, doesn’t lay, and then lays two the next day often by “surprise” out in the run or while roosting. But she hasn’t been back to the nest box that I...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I did see a large black feather on the ground of the run yesterday (I only have two black chickens). She hatched at the end of December - is this age about the time for molting to occur? These are my first chickens so I am not sure what else to look for with molting!

How do I know if she is egg bound? That area seems a bit puffy but I don’t know what’s normal. She hasn’t laid in 5 days, the last egg she laid was weird. It had a rough dry texture and was light tan ( she normally lays about a 4-5 on the BCM chart). She will eat some but not like she normally...

There were some lice under her wings but not in this area. I did treat her for those. No maggots and no strong odor that I noticed.

This is the area under her vent. I cut away some yucky feathers and applied iodine and antibacterial ointment shortly before this so it looks a bit greasier than it had- prior to treatment her butt fluff hid this entirely! She also hasn’t laid an egg in 4 days. She is a fairly new layer...

When it rains it pours- I am seeing lethargy, diarrhea, and anemia in my grow outs. Things were trending better and now worse. Help!

I know it’s rare but I am stumped. I don’t know why else they’d have this chronic diarrhea besides worms or coccidiosis and after treating for both, my sick girl improved for a few days then started crashing again. I am still seeing abnormal droppings from a few of them as well; meanwhile the...

When it rains it pours- I am seeing lethargy, diarrhea, and anemia in my grow outs. Things were trending better and now worse. Help!

I have a grow out flock that is about 15-16 weeks old. One pullet was fully crashed and needed to be hand fed and given medicine in a dropper because she stopped eating and would only sleep. After 6 days on Albon and more birds starting to seem low I switched to safeguard after seeing a...

Still no idea what’s going on with my hens comb and growing black spots

I’ll snap a picture under her vent today, I already put iodine on those scabs and her comb and wattles this morning so pictures may be a bit misleading at the moment!

Today I found scabs under her vent as well. They’re not as dark/bad but the spot under her vent also feels sort of soft and heavy and then has these scabs. Is this still consistent with fowl pox? I just want to help this poor girl! @LaFleche @Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock

I got iodine and triple antibiotic yesterday and treated her comb and wattles before bed. How many times a day should I coat with iodine and a layer of ointment? Just before bed? Or should I do it more?

@LaFleche @Eggcessive That’s so interesting because I thought the picture from June looked like she had a normal comb. What do you see on that photo that points to fowl pox? Also, I found this picture from July 5.

@LaFleche @Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive I found this photo from June 13. So I guess it’s a little under 2 months that this has been progressing. I applied triple antibiotic to the comb and wattles today. They don’t necessarily feel hot but they do feel thick/swollen.

I haven’t put anything on them- she’s a bit tough to catch because she startles and calls for the rooster. She’s extremely friendly when she’s on the ground but hates to be picked up. I can try iodine though. I guess it’s been maybe 2 months, tops now that I am looking back at photos? It feels...
