    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I've always heard a week or more. Please don't feel bad for putting her in a kennel. I've had to do the same with a broody hen 3 different times. I set up food and water, then pushed a stick through the wire of the cage to make a roost. She pretty much sat on the roost for the week. If you have...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

My two GLOws are just as aggressive. They both gang up on a few of the other hens lower in the pecking order. I have heard you can remove the aggressive when to adjust the pecking order. It's worth a try before reforming her. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

    Sexing Barred Rocks-roo or pullet?

Dustinolson- This post was from last spring! He was definitely a roo and I had to give him away. Maybe the pics can help others?

    Silkie Cross Thread!! PICS!!

What beautiful Silkie crosses you all have! It seems for the most part, they all get the large dark eyes from Silkies.

    What breed is this rooster?

Yellow legs? It's a spur and not a 5th toe. Welsummer was my guess too.

    What breed is this rooster?

I only have had hens, up until about a month ago. Any help identifying this beautiful boy?

I was thinking the same thing about her head feathers- that slicked back look makes me think rooster. Has "she" started laying yet, or does she just have crazy feathers? A pullet is a female chicken less than a year old. They are technically not called hens until they are over a year.

Kiaa- Your birds are just stunning! I love the roo, He looks like he has a wig on with his long, flowing feathers. The look pretty big too. Mine is very small compared to the rest of the flock, a bantam for sure.

I'm just north of Eugene, Oregon. We're practically neighbors! We had the same weather- inches of rain over the weekend. My run is a mucky mess. My coop is elevated, so they have a dry area under it that's a pretty good size. They usually don't go under unless it's really pouring. I'll be...

I really do! I need a bantam coop. Really, we need to move so I can make this happen. Our house is for sale and we have acreage picked out. We just need to sell first.

I'm here! I just don't check in often. Little Nugget keeps getting picked on, then she flies over my big fence into the side yard. Twice now I've come home from work to her on the other side of the fence. It's maybe a 4 ft. fence with chicken wire extending it another 2 feet. She can't get out...

    Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

I'm really interested to hear what others have to say about their disposition. Mine both will pluck feathers from the other 2 chickens that are lower in the pecking order than them. Personally, I'd never get Wyandottes or Orpingtons again. I've had the most trouble with them out of everyone in...

    Shaming my rooster!

I had a very large, aggressive hen that began attacking me around the time she started laying. I actually thought she was a rooster, she was so much bigger than the others and her feathering was different, until she squatted for me! She was fluffing her feathers up and charging me. It then...

Will pullet naturally lay in nesting boxes or outside?

When mine started to lay, it seemed they'd drop their egg wherever they were in their run. I found them all over. I got a ceramic egg to put in each nesting box and they all laid in there from that day on. It was a very convincing egg, so must have done the trick.

Do chickens have an "awkard" period?

This happened to me too. I handled my chicks A LOT. It seemed as soon as they were ready to go outside and had their freedom, them hated me. The sweet ones would run away and shriek. The good news is, once they have each started to lay, I can pet them or pick them up when they squat for me. All...
