    Flies in the run

I'm on the Central Coast of Ca. My run is around 10 by 8 feet and my coop has 2 nesting boxes and a high area for hens to roost. I have been using Echo Flake for bedding. We have not experienced any winter yet though we are desperate for rain. It's sunny and quite warm today!

    Flies in the run

Is there a way to control flies in the run and coop? I pick up or rake the coop as best I can but my 4 hens are molting heavily and feathers are everywhere. By the way, are the feathers recycleable?

How long will my 20 month old chickens molt and when will they start laying again?

    Immature and broken eggs

I have 4 barred rock hens who are 18 months and have been laying regularly for some time. Within the last 3 months one hen is laying eggs without shells and or broken eggs. I have added some vitamins to their pellets as well as oyster shells but she still has a problem. Any suggestions?

    Crushed Eggs

I have 4 barred rock chickens. They all look alike! They are a little over 1 year old. Starting about 4-6 weeks ago one started laying eggs that were broken or crushed with very thin shells. The rest of the eggs are perfect. Any ideas? I feed then layer pellets and oyster shells plus some scraps.

    New to BYC

I was reading my Costco magazine and saw the article "Coop de ville" so went on-line to check it out. I have 4 one year old Barred Rocks and live in a small town, (6000) on the central coast of California. I raised Eenie, Meenie, Miney and Moe from babies (sp?) but can't tell who is who! They...
