I thought that at first, about Darwin, but I helped one chick out last time, and it was strong as ever. I guess it just depends. I've heard people argue that the high calcium diet for egg layers makes the shells to hard for the chicks to escape.
It's been 15 hours since it pipped now. The other one pipped and stopped too. But I tapped on the incubator and he started cheeping, the other one has not made a sound, however when it was pipping it was trying hard, the egg was rocking all over the place.
I've got eleven coturnux eggs in the incubator, its day eighteen and they finally started, at three pm today one started rocking and cheeping, it pipped. Another started to, but the first hasn't done anything for hours, do they stop and take a break after pipping? The last time I hatched a bunch...
I read that you should use a boiled egg yolk, because the yellow catches there eye. He pecked at the food a little, its turkey starter,. So wet a q-tip and stick it up to his beak? there's a pic, his legs look fine.
It's a coturnux quail, he is twenty hours old, he was running around chirping like crazy yesterday, but now he keeps falling to one side. He got a little better since I last said.
I have had only one chick hatch, I just woke up and when I saw it it was laying down unable to stand back up, I set it up but it can't stand upright, he was so active yesterday. But I never saw him eat or drink. Whats wrong???
I have had one hatch, there are three others that should hatch, one has a large crack and a little peep hole, but nothing's changed for five hours. The only one that hatched, hatched about 9 hours ago. Should I try to open the shell? Or is it just dead.
I have a few coturnux eggs, they are due to hatch today, one started last night, a little circular crack appeared, but nothing's happened since. Did it die? Or does it just wait before it cuts around the shell?
I'm making a larger setup for my coturnux quail, and I expect that once it is all set up I will have excess quails, and especially eggs. Does anybody know a dependable source for selling quail and\or eggs? I see ads on craigslist but that doesn't seem reliable. Possibly a farmers market? I'm not...
How about one of those 7 chicken egg incubators for 30-40$ are they any good? I personally used a fish tank, a lamp, and a thermometer to hatch a pigeon once. My point is I need a cheap effective incubator
