adoption of week old chick- unheard of?

I still can't quite believe it, but a week old chick was accepted by the mother hen, and also accepted her. My bantam easter egger hatched out 8 eggs, and one that pipped but couldn't hatch. We brought it inside and helped it out carefully. It had bad spraddle leg so we couldn't reunite it. I...

My roo is dead:'-( but from what?

My sweet d'uccle bantam was found this afternoon, laying on the floor of the run dead, still warm so it must have just happened. There was not a mark on him nor feather out of place. The d*mned rabbit that eats chicken feed ran away when I went out... Is it possible that the rabbit scared him...

    D'uccle's leg feathers breaking

Hi, My sweet D'uccle roo has trouble getting around with all his leg feathers, and they tend to break. Is there a safe length I could maybe trim his feathers to so it doesn't cause him as much annoyance and breakage? I dont want to hit the quick or hurt him, but I also want him to be...

    Silkie bantam in MN winter

Hi, my first time wintering bantams, unfortunately only 4, one a silkie. tl/dr: Anything I need to know about keeping them cozy when it hits the negative Temps? Thinking of getting a rafiant warmer panel for when the temp gets brutal. What I'm already doing: mostly insulated and vented...

    Silkies from cackle

Ok I have a pic now of my cackle hatchery bantam silkie I got this past may. No clue still if it's a boy or girl, it's bearded so no wattles. No real comb growth either, nor any streamers, though the tail seems rather largish for a hen and the feet are large. It does act rather more hennish...

    Silkies from cackle

I don't have a pic on my phone and it's dark out, but my splash silkie looks almost exactly like the hatchery page blue splash picture. It just has more tail feathers.

Standard Mille fleur d'uccle over blue splash cochin

My general end goal is to have a small yard flock with the cold hardy small comb and muff of the easter eggers, with the much more calm personality of the cochin and mille fleur. I'm guessing my mutt easter eggers may only have one blue egg gene, so I'm likely going to end up with mostly light...

Standard Mille fleur d'uccle over blue splash cochin

Thank you, I really appreciate the response! Sounds like I will get a beautiful variety:-)

Standard Mille fleur d'uccle over blue splash cochin

What overall color chicks are they likely to make together? I'm reading up on chicken color genetics but it seems fairly complicated.

    "Special" rooster

The reason I said 2-3 pullets is, I'm still not sure if the bearded silky is a hen or roo, though leaning towards hen. The beta roo is a jerk and beats on the silky. Do non silky birds sometimes have trouble telling if a silky is a hen or roo? It's the only silky in my flock.

    "Special" rooster

Setup: bought straight run chicks, ended up being 2-3 pullets, 4 cockerels:-( My son's favorite ee roo, which I foolishly promised we would not get rid of when they were chicks, seems 'off.' He's scared of his own shadow, and even the pullets chase him. He's always trying to steal their...

    What is this coloration/color genetics?

Easter eggers hatched early may, presumably roos, I think the reddish one is called blue wheaten color? Nooo clue what the white faced one is called lol. I want to know what colors they can pass to chicks, please. Sorry about the run wire best photos I could do.
