Its a silly argument. An abandonned chicken has a very short life expectancy. I know people in the city limits of Orlando who have permitted chickens and they have hawks that make attempts at grabbing chickens. If people abandonned chickens we would not be overrun with chickens...as there are...
It was actually Mayor Teresa Jacobs who started this. Mayor Jacobs directed staff to review what Orlando did and see how it could be applied to Orange County. So, staff did the research and made the recommendation for the new ordinance. Dennis Mudge is the scientist from the Orange County...
Hey-the Orange County board did not approve allowing backyard chickens. They voted today 8/6/13. But, since you are in AR, the proposed ordinance would not have impacted you anyway. This ordinance that did not pass was going to apply only to residential zoning areas and not agricultural or...
So, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners did not approve the ordinance to allow backyard chickens. The vote was 4 against and 2 in favor. The mayor was not present for the vote and she was one of the supporters. Karikoo77...do you want any of my chickens?
The meeting of the Board of County Commissioners is Tuesday, August 6th. The agenda has not been posted on the www.ocfl.net web page yet, but the vote on Backyard Chickens should take place when the board gets back in afternoon session at 2 pm.
There are several topics on the agenda for the...
We ran into a small roadblock at the meeting today. Two people spoke against the ordinance for backyard chickens. One lady was in tears complaining about how her neighbors had chickens and it caused a raccoon to take up residence in her attic and do thousands of dollars worth of damage...
The final meeting for Backyard Chickens for Orange County FL is Tuesday 7/2/2013 at 2 pm. This is the meeting where the Board of County Commissioners actually votes on changing the ordinance. Looks like the chickens are the 3rd item on the agenda. I will be there to speak in favor of passing...
Hi Karikoo77-
This would not apply to you if you are zoned Agricutural or Citrus Rural. This new ordinance applies to residential zoning only, such as R1. Where it has not been legal to raise chickens. For example, I am no where near being in the boonies...wish I did have some acreage out in...
You may want to double check with Orange County about the type of HOA you are in. My neighborhood has an HOA, but it is voluntary. Which means that we have a long list of rules and regulations, but if we don't follow them, all the HOA can do is send us a nasty letter in the mail. My HOA...
Hi all-
I am happy to report that the meeting went very well with the Board of County Commissioners. There were only 2 people who spoke and both were in favor of backyard hens. I spoke briefly and then another lady spoke briefly. (Was that you at the meeting OtownBeekeeper?)
I was...
Hi-
Sorry for the delayed reply. The meeting is Tuesday 6/18 and starts at 5:01 pm. The meetings are conducted in the Commission Chambers located on the first floor of the County Administrative Center at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando.
This is the first of 2 public hearings on backyard...
The ordinance to allow the chickens is still being finalized. I spoke at the zoning meeting, the Animal Services meeting, and there is another Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday 6/18 at 5 pm. I plan on attending that meeting as well. The meeting is open to the public, so the...
Hi Lucas-
Welcome to BYC. Sounds like you have quite a large flock developing. Good luck with the mini farm! I am jealous...I would love to have 10 acres!
I think you can let the snake live if you get the right size hardware cloth. Get hardware cloth with openings too small for a snake to pass through. I could not tell what your coop base it made from, but you may need to make some changes to keep snakes from digging under the hardware cloth.
