Hello! I've actually been a member before, but it was years ago. I had a few backyard pet birds, but we had an incident involving another homeowner in the neighborhood and feral cats - Grrrr - and to protect the rest of my birds, I sent them to a farm in North Carolina. I now have a much better...
I thought EE's laid much larger eggs. Both the cochin and the silkie weigh about 2 pounds, and the EE's weigh about 7 pounds. The eggs are only 2 inches long. I have a friend with an EE and his EE eggs are wayyy larger. That's why I was ruling them out. Unless they are fart eggs???
Hello! I'm hoping to get some education. I can't math my chickens apparently.
I have a black cochin laying, a black silkie laying, and two easter eggers. The cochin, Tallulah lays small rounded and very slightly tan tinted eggs daily. A couple of weeks ago, smaller white "skinny" eggs...
"But Mooooommmm....I was making the mud pies for you!"
"No you didn't just take my picture!! And I ain't even got my hair did!"
LOVE this thread! Had to submit a couple of my own!
I have to join in! I have a fun solid white EE, too! Her name is Lulu Belle. I SWEAR she's solid white, but we've been getting lots of rain and she absolutely loves rolling in mud.
No problem finding them a new place. They're going back to the farm where they can breed. Win/win situation. I managed to get a better photo. So even though they're the same age (same clutch even) Veronica/Vernon on the right is still a rooster even with the smaller comb and wattles? Not...
I haven't gotten a clear standing pic of them. But they've started "play fighting." I'll be swapping them out. I assume this happens pretty often when you're buying straight run. I figured I'd get maybe one, but three out of four? Niiice. I'm kinda disappointed since I'd started getting...
Yep. Roos they must be. Also looking like one of my EE's is also a roo. Four birds and only one is female. My luck.
The farm where I got them is gonna do some swapping. He has a solid white 8 week chick he'll swap for Wilma/Wilbur. Who is in this pic. Note the huge tail fan and the pinking up comb.
Here's a couple pics I took this afternoon while they were mud wrestling. Betty seems to have sprouted larger black tail feathers while Veronica's are still red and stubby. Betty's comb is plump and bright red, and her wattles are larger, longer and floppier. I've been reading that both can...
Here's our little coop before we installed the door on it. We coated the roof with rubberized undercoating and I'm still shopping for "oops" paint.
Wilma and Gertie fell in love with my son.
This is Betty and Veronica. My 13 week old pullets.
Yes! I started reading there before I even got Wilma and Gertie. I still go back and reference every now and then. There's more than I thought, but still incredibly simple so it's enjoyable.
I already learned to switch them to medicated feed. I'm going to be adding electrolytes to their water...
Hello! My name is Outlaw Alice a.k.a. Tammy. I've just gotten into raising chickens. I grew up on a farm that had 30 - 40 chickens at a time, but I just want a mini flock for a million reasons. Fresh eggs (also my husbands reason as he waits for his omelets impatiently), pest control...
