I noticed today that my one year old leghorn hen has one eye open. She alternates between closing and opening it. It’s not swollen and there’s no pus leaking out of it. She’s noting showing any respiratory systems either so I think I can rule that out. Nothing appears to be in her eye. Although...
I don’t have a picture right now but it looks normal. In the morning her crop is empty. Right now she’s not eating that much but she usually eats a mixture of mostly 16% protein pellets and corn. The vet told me she preferred crumbles over pellets so we just switched but she’s still not eating...
Here’s another picture of her poop. As of recently her poop has been a mix of yellow and white liquid, which is why she was prescribed antibiotics. I haven’t seen any lash eggs or anything of the sorts and her belly isn’t swollen. I even examined her myself and didn’t find anything.
When I took her to the vet the first time, they told me she had a mass in her cloaca but according to them it went down. They also examined her and took an xray and determined egg bound wasn’t the issue
My 1 year old Barred Rock hen has been lethargic since the beginning of this month. She went from being extremely energetic and social to isolating herself and standing in one spot. She’s been to the vet 4 times so far and they keep saying nothing is wrong with her. They also gave her some...
They come outside to free range everyday unless the weather is bad. I’ve been in the process of getting toys just in case they are bored, but right now they have a food block to peck on when their bored.
The top photo is from when it first started getting bad in the November and the bottom is recently. I’ll try to get pictures of the other three tomorrow. I haven’t seen any scabs anywhere, last summer mosquitos didn’t seem to bother them as much. I’m just worried about disease or further...
They’re only 9 months old so they haven’t molted yet. They free-range in the afternoon and go inside for the night. I been adding in some distractions for them so that the main feather-pecker stops. Other than the messing rear feathers they’re happy and healthy.
I have three chickens that are missing some feathers due to a feather picking habit, so parts of their skin is exposed. I live in Alabama, so in the summer the mosquitos are really bad. I been wondering if the mosquitos will bite their exposed skin? If so, is there a deterrent I can maybe use to...
Right now, I waiting for her to come back tonight to sleep on my fence again so I can catch her. I’m pretty sure she’s around 3 months old but I’ve never seen a chicken that looks like her. Hopefully I have a happy ending like yours. I would love to see photos!
Yesterday this chicken wandered to the fence of our backyard. I don’t know what breed she is. We’ve knocked on doors but we can’t get a hold of the owners. She appears to be scared and may be sick. I have 8 other chickens and don’t want to risk them getting sick. I’ve tried to feed her but she...
I have a 8 month old chicken who’s at the lowest of the pecking order. I’ve caught her pecking my other chickens feathers to the point where their skin is exposed. I have 3 chickens that look like this. I have increased their protein in their feed to 19%. Will I have to wait until their molt for...
Will the run suffice? One of the bully hens bullies the other bully too. I have another coop that houses my 4 other chickens and they hate my rustic rocks. Other than that I don’t have anywhere else to put them.
