Should I Treat For Mites? *pictures*

I brought home two 3-week old chicks from Agway a few days ago and as soon as I got them in the brooder, I noticed they had bald spots. They are completely quarantined from the rest of my flock, but I'm not totally sure what I'm dealing with here. Their vents are completely clear and healthy...

    New Coop and Run Finished!

We actually just built two separate 4'x8' runs and then screwed them together. Here's the link to the plans for any specific questions: http://www.construct101.com/chicken-coop-run-plans/

    New Coop and Run Finished!

Unfortunately we bought the coop from an amazing company called Coops for a Cause in New Hampshire. If you're remotely local to them, I highly suggest giving them a look! I do have the plans for the run, though, if anyone is interested!

    New Coop and Run Finished!

Good eye! I'm not actually sure what's over the window now, it seems like generic screening material. We'll be adding hardware cloth reinforcement before the girls move in. And ha, yes, the frame is definitely built like a tank! We get lots of snow and the last thing we need is a run that...

    New Coop and Run Finished!

We're first-time chicken owners and spent lots of time researching the best way to create a safe space for the hens. We purchased a custom-built 4'x8' coop from a local, reputable company and then built the run ourselves. The run is 8'x8' (the chickens will also have access underneath the coop)...

Topic of the week - Dustbathing

@MrsAuberry00 So we haven't actually built it yet, but the plan is to frame the run with about 6" of plywood (and line the entire bottom with hardware cloth), then spread out 3-4 inches of pea stone plus a few inches of washed construction sand. I'm slightly overwhelmed thinking about it!

Topic of the week - Dustbathing

We are constructing a run for our not quite two-week-old flock (though they won't be introduced to the run for several more weeks). The run will be lined with pea stone and sand. Will we need to provide them with a dust bath in addition to the sand run?

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

We must be practically neighbors -- I'm also pretty darn close to Concord! Anyway, here's a general hello to everyone else! We just got our first chicks ever this week and we've already expanded, ha! I brought home 6 RIRs on Monday, then the whole family came with me to the feed store on...

    Hello from MA!

Hey all! I'm brand new to the chicken world but I'm jumping in with both feet. We currently have 6 two week old RIRs and we're picking up 2 black australorps this afternoon. Our coop is being built as we speak and should be ready in about three weeks, and we're finalizing plans for a run (which...
