    blood on an egg

Hi there, This morning I found blood on an egg. The pattern of the blood smear looked like it happened as it was being laid. Is this a sign of something serious? I haven't found a hen yet with an injured vent but I haven't checked through all of them. thanks in advance for the help!

Oregon Fall Chicken Swap!! SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10!!

Hi there, I'm fairly new to chickens and I've never been to a swap before. Is money acceptable at a swap or does it have to be a trade? Thanks for helping out this newbie. I can't wait to meet you all!

    Funny (smart) rooster

Just noticed that our Gold laced Wyandotte rooster has started waiting just outside the door to the coop each evening and mating with each hen that tries to go in to bed. It's like a "toll" they have to pay before bed. Just wanted to share.

    Need Advice- new rooster problem

Thanks for everyone's advice. This evening we brought Pico to a new home. He has 15 acres to roam with a large flock of bantam hens. He cried out when I started to walk away and was so sad to see him go, but he has some beautiful new ladies and a much nicer place to live.

    Need Advice- new rooster problem

Vulcan is in the pen with most of the ladies and we let Pico have an entire 20 acres and his favorite women, but he keeps going up to the fence and antagonizing Vulcan, even though Vulcan is about 5 times his size. I don't think they could ever live in peace. Maybe if we made another pen that...

    Need Advice- new rooster problem

Hi, Very new to having chickens, and I made a mistake today. I have my first flock of Wyandottes, BOs, EEs, Barred Rocks, and black sex links. I had a mystery chick in the mix, and I believe that the one rooster we have is the mystery chick, so I don't know what he is, but he's always been...

    Hooked Beak baddie?

Hi, I have 3 week old chicks and one has grown this incredibly hooked beak like a hawk. I've been feeding them by hand but this one always bites me, I don't know if on purpose or just that it's beak makes it do that by accident. Is this common? Should I get rid of it if it bites? ( I have 5...

    which is the mystery chick?

No pictures just yet but I got an order today from McMurray and I'm trying to figure out which is the mystery chick. They sent 2 extras, so I don't know which is the rare or both? I have 6 that look like BO but one is a little bigger and more lemon colored than the others. I also have 6 +5 of...

    Oregon

Hen n'biddies- I think they're still there. We just moved into our mini-farm from town but I think I've heard people talking about them. We're actually renting a place from the current care-taker. He's been there since the 80s so I'll ask him. He also used to keep chickens and has been giving...

    Oregon

Hi there, We live in Eugene (Actually near Mt. Pisgah, which is technically still Eugene.) We have our first chicks coming in a couple weeks. I've been reading a lot of posts on here but I'm just now starting to post myself. We're going to be getting more chicks than we really can keep because...

    How to choose the keepers?

I ordered all girls except for the "mystery chick". Thanks for those websites. What I'm really wondering is what tendancies you guys look for in a chick that make a good chicken, what personality traits are good, or is it personal taste? For example, I'm a dog person and I really know how to...

    How to choose the keepers?

Thanks for the advice and the link. I already researched breeds and made my choices. I was wondering how to pick within a breed. I'm glad that it sounds like I'll be able to tell who the friendly ones are right away. What about how they will get along together? Do they change and start picking...
