Oregon

should Oregon have its own thread? I just built my brother a coup and he is taking in 5 hens in beavertron. Its good times out here for us. lots of folks are geting into havin there own chickens in an urban enviroment. All my neighbors are stoked too. this might get out of hand.

Hi there,

We live in Eugene (Actually near Mt. Pisgah, which is technically still Eugene.) We have our first chicks coming in a couple weeks. I've been reading a lot of posts on here but I'm just now starting to post myself.

We're going to be getting more chicks than we really can keep because of the minimum order number. I don't know how I'm ever going to decide who I want to keep! I know I'll want them all.

Anyway, just saying "hi".

SILVER MOON -- I am in Powell Butte. Just building my coop and have chicks coming Feb 16th. Lets keep in touch! Chickens do fine here. I have a friend that has been getting eggs all winter, even during our big snow! You can PM me if you want.

OWL WITH PEAS _ We lived in Eugene for 31 years. When our kids were grade school (late70s early 80s) we used to go to Mt Pisgah. It was just named as a park and still quite primitive and natural and wonderful to roam around. The thing I most remember are the peacocks that wandered around where we parked at the old caretaker's home. The kids loved the place. Are the peacocks still there?

Hen n'biddies- I think they're still there. We just moved into our mini-farm from town but I think I've heard people talking about them. We're actually renting a place from the current care-taker. He's been there since the 80s so I'll ask him.

He also used to keep chickens and has been giving us some good advice.

I lost all my chickens while on vacation in January - I think it was a bobcat. That was the first time a predator got into the chicken house, but it was my mistake. I didn't secure the wire enough.

Anyone in the Eugene or Corvallis area planning on excess chicks? If not, I think I'll order Golden Campines and Speckled Sussex pullets from Junction City Farm & Garden. I've been happy with them in the past.

I'm more interested in good layers than exhibition breeds.
