Thanks Randall, I think I am going to go ahead and put them in the raised wire pen outside. I can put a light on the top of the cage on one end and they will still have plenty of room to move around to get clear of it if they need to.

Question Is, Would It Be Too Soon To Move 2 Week Old Coturnix To Much Needed Larger Outside Wire Cage?
Being new to quail, and raising initially for meat purposes, are there any benefits to breeding different birds? I am raising what I was told is jumbo coturnix.
I am getting ready to have quite a few birds in short term grow out pens and it would seem to make sense that as a new hatch comes along and out the brooder, they could go into the same pen and the ones that will be just a couple of weeks away from coming out. Being new here I am asking for...

I have to agree. The head injury will heal IF the birds don't have to deal with any more pecking. I had one that was nearly dead and when he was able to stay by himself for several weeks he completely healed. Now, however, you can't put another bird close to him, in any pen, without...

You could try using oats. That idea came from a thread several weeks ago so I can't take credit but my first hatch of 40 is doing nicely and there is not any danger when they eat it.
I did not realize that Coturnix would put up with tighter spacing than other quail. Good information. When raising for meat would it be more productive to just keep a batch all together (male & female) until butcher date? I suppose this is providing that a person has all the layers he wants...
Others would know better than myself I'm sure, but I have mine at two birds/sf and they are doing fine so far. Right now my pens have extra space taken up by feeders and waterers that will be out of the way soon to give more floor space to the birds. I would have some expansion room just in...
it is 1/2 inch wire and i was thinking that same thing about the one that has been like this for a while, but the new development in the bird a couple of days ago doesn't add up. their feet are seemingly too big to fit through now. i just dont know.
My birds are about 9 weeks old and several weeks ago I realized that one of them could not straighten either leg. Both "knees" are swollen and the thing cannot stand. I have just been trying to decide what to do and then two days ago I noticed another in the same pen with the same trouble on...
I have coturnix that are just now about 7 1/2 weeks old and out of three pens I am getting very uneven egg production so far. They get good light naturally but a little more artificial might not hurt. One pen (2' x 2') with six females and two males gives 4 eggs a day for several days running...
