    First experience with bumblefoot

I find this thread very interesting. My flock got bumblefoot for the first time last year but not all of them and they were all one breed, Golden Laced Wyandotte (I have similar size birds, Dominiques, who did not get it. One thing I did notice was that the Dominiques used the feed bins as an...

    Blood yolk with no shell

She's a little over a year old and has been laying right along for about 7 months. I suspect that whatever is going on inside has gotten worse so I'm just going to keep a close eye on it.

    Blood yolk with no shell

I got one today and am wondering the same thing. One of my Easter Egger hens, a pullet, seems to have some kind of prolapse and I've been monitoring it, but she's eating and drinking normally and running around and I suspect she's the one that sometimes lays eggs streaked with a little bit of blood.

Ended Waterfowl & Water Photo Contest

My 2-year-old Runners. When I go out and do all the water pans every morning, I let the hose run while delivering the pans and make a mud puddle for them. They so enjoy it!

    First experience with bumblefoot

You did wellto catch it early. It makes it so much easier to treat. (My operating table, above) I soaked my girl's feet in a basin with warm water and Epsom salt, then put her up on a table, wrapped her in a towel held by a band, and squeezed out that hard kernel that's inside there after the...

My house is 1 acre. Can my neighbr hear my rooster?

I was surprised where my neighbors told me the same thing!

Leaving home for 36 hours. What should I do with my chicks?

I have trained even young chicks to drink from a rabbit or guinea pig water bottle! Water can't get dirty, can't get knocked over, and it lasts a long time.

I know it's early but....Who's ready for 2024 Baby Chicks!

Oh, this is worrying! It's so important to check the calendar and especially stay away from weekends. I buy from Meyer and all their chicks hatch on a Monday and they ship right away so they arrive in a day or two, staying away from weekends. I hope and pray they will be OK! Maybe they will come...

I know it's early but....Who's ready for 2024 Baby Chicks!

I placed my order as well because I was afraid they would be sold out if I waited any longer. I ordered Olive and Easter Egger chicks and hatching eggs for a project with my students. We can't wait!!

I know it's early but....Who's ready for 2024 Baby Chicks!

You will love Speckled Sussex! My original flock and they are calm and friendly. I had to get different breeds for my next generation because the SS were sold out!

    Cochin thread!

YAAAAY for Cochins, my FAVORITE! I have a bantam Black Cochin named Tappy (her twin Tippy died, she had white wing tips and my 7 yo granddaughter named them) and JUST got 6 Mottled Cochin bantam chicks who are SOOO adorable! We had a bantam Mottled who died a few months ago and we miss her...

Talk me off the Ledge... $2000 for a chicken coop!

I'd be concerned about using metal - that will turn into an oven on a hot day unless they have installed some pretty heavy-duty ventilation system. Does it have windows at least?

Talk me off the Ledge... $2000 for a chicken coop!

I paid over $3K for the materials to build a 10 x 16 coop (thankfully, last fall, and I stored it away for spring) but it will be as sound as a house. This is just for lumber, hardware, and metal roof. I went to my favorite home improvement store which had a promotion that if you spent more than...
