Started with 90% grey body and only white on the wing tips as day old from Murray McMurray in a Premium Layer mix.
4 weeks old now. White had spread to most of body other than head. Slate legs. Larger than most others in the mix.
Any ideas?
The two in the middle of this photo. To show how...
Two 15 week old suspect males. No crowing or other attitude/mannerism signs of gender. They hang out very closely with my other two whiting true blue (99% sure pullets) of the same age, and none of the four really mix with my older pullets. Sort of like a sub pecking order/flock between the...
The stock tank deicer, yes. The heat tape on the PVC pipe hopefully. The cups......are going to be virtually impossible to keep from freezing. There is not really a way to keep the trigger thawed and the small bit of cup water thawed. Perhaps finding a way to replace the cups with another...
I only have about 6 months worth of time exposing my chickens to my caulked feeder, but so far they have shown no interest in the caulk at all. There are a few spots where it has shrunk a tiny bit or separated from the main container, but overall mine is still 99% like the day I made it.
Google "ranch fly trap" for many options that use this same style/mechanism of trap. It is a pretty standard and often reproduced design. If you are ok with a more flimsy fabric netting, can be bought for pretty cheap. The one that the OP posted looks to be metal? Which would last a lot...
Any reason why you can't just use a food grade bucket to make your nipple waterer? It won't be leaching anything into your water. The nipples on the other hand would be the weak link since I would be VERY surprised if any on the market certify that the plastic or metal pin/springs are "safe".
I think most people would use the term "dud" for any egg that they expected a chick to hatch from that did not hatch a live chick. Not confusing language at all in my opinion.
I have been carrying my "anti-dragon" rock in my pocket for years. Never seen a dragon, so it must work! It is for sale if you want it. :thumbsup
I also sell a sludge I call Winterfresh-DE. It smells great and is super gritty if you eat it. Keeps everything away, especially husbands/wives...
No reason to puke anything up at all. They eat animals, skeleton and all. It comes out as snake poop. They aren't owls puking up balls of fur and bones after all....
Here is the answer on Flock Raiser Pellet versus Crumble, direct from Purina.
"Thank you for your question. We do still manufacture Flock Raiser Pellets. Most stores carry the crumbles since it is an all life phases feed because the crumbles are easier for young birds. I would suggest...
I soak alfalfa pellets or cubes and then mix it with wet feed. Pellets marketed for rabbits, cubes marketed for horses. I like the cubes more since the alfalfa is slightly longer and less just "mush". 40 or 50 pound bag of horse cubes costs 10-20 bucks and lasts virtually forever. Haha.
Can also just maintain an open trench and cut the runners when they enter the trench. Just chop them with a shovel. That is how some people do it. Especially if they don't want a permanent concrete wall buried in their yard.
