Make your own - No waste - 5 gallon (25# feed) bucket feeder for about $3

Is this common?

I only have about 6 months worth of time exposing my chickens to my caulked feeder, but so far they have shown no interest in the caulk at all. There are a few spots where it has shrunk a tiny bit or separated from the main container, but overall mine is still 99% like the day I made it.

I'm updating my OP to change the following................

UPDATE -

In the original plan we used caulk to keep the elbow in the bucket. It occurred to me that if I used PVC cement on the outside of the pvc elbow and the inside/outside of the bucket where the hole is that it would PERMANENTLY join the two and there would be no worries that the pipe would move around or even fall out of the bucket.

I just modified my bucket and the two parts are joined nice and tight FOREVER!!!

Just tried to update my OP but the system wouldn't allow me to "edit". So I hope people will see this post and use the PVC cement over the caulk.

Great update - thanks!

Please make this into an article, with pics. Or if it is an article, please post the link so I can bookmark it! Thanks! I made one of these and I LOVE it. Mine is not pretty but it works. Best of all, it keeps my glutton dog out of the feed and she is back down to her fighting weight now!

If you look in my article page I have pics and write up on how the make one.

Might be cut a bit deep for feed level to stay below opening?
No issues with feed level. Feed level does not rise up into fittings.(Actually stays lower than you would think) One thing I noticed is with it being alittle higher the chickens are able to really get in there and empty the feeder out completely. I just made another tonight using a Plastic Folgers coffee container and 2” elbows for my quail. By far my favorite feeders.
