    It's about a 100 run to the coop. I think I have a 16ga cord that will be fine for a light bulb but likely not enough to be safe for a heated water bowl. I will have to find out what they draw. I plan on wiring the coop when I do the shed next spring. Ran out of time this year.

    I will just put in a incandescent 60w on a timer and be done with it. I think I already have a outdoor extension cord capable. That will keep my cost low also.

    Thanks kbarrett- I havent had a chance to run electric out to the shed and coop yet. Wife has me doing so many other projects. Maybe I can use a drop cord with a 48" grow bulb and see if it makes a difference.

    My hens have a a tough year. We had a rat issue that seemed to be taken care of with trapping, neighborhood cats and a weasel. We blamed the lack of eggs on a wesel and rats. Changed the coop around so it can be sealed up at night so I know the birds are now safe and nothing can get to the eggs...

    Every gun sale must come with a lock from the dealer, its the law. No matter how experienced you are with a handgun its going to be pure luck if you hit the predator. Make sure your using frangible or at least hollow point ammo to limit the ricochet

    I am not thinking racoon because the hole wasnt large enough for a very small hen (thinking cornish game hen size) to fit.
