    Pop-up camper coop..

Chickens are not really impressed with our carpentry skills...lol. I have seen trailers, fifth wheels, and campers all used to house chickens. Whatever works best for the chicken keeper, and best provides the needs for the chickens. Some can't afford the lavishness some of us go to for our...

has anyone ordered red star hens from Murray Mcmurray Hatchery?

I have ordered red stars from McMurray and I agree with Matte. They are excellent layers, easy keepers, and very quiet. Many of mine will have eggs in the nest by the time I let them out at 7:00 a.m.

its all my fault im an idiot

For goodness sake, beating yourself up isn't going to change anything. Post where you live, town, state. Maybe someone on here lives close by and can help you. I have several two-week old chicks but how can anyone help if they don't know where you are. Best of luck and Jenny gave you some...

Whats the Best bedding for a brooder?

I have to agree with riftnreef, paper towels for the entire first week. Then I go to pine shavings. I also use horse beding pellets. They actually are more absorbent that even the pine shavings are and don't tend to foul the water near as much. Good luck with all your babies.

    Cedar brooder???:(

WOW!!! Bet your really confused by now. You are probably very right about it being western red as it is much more available, and much less expensive. One of the posters hit the nail on the head when he/she mentioned ventilation is the key. If you have wire on the top I you have nothing to...

    how cold is tooooooooo cold?

In my opinion the low twenties is to cold for eight week old chicks. I would never let them be in less than forty degree temp's at that age. I go through around five hundred birds every year and I just would not do it. I wish you the very best what ever decision you make. Paraclete 2

Anyone hatching on January 5th???? I got chickies everywhere!!! PICS

Zoo Mummy: You asked about lockdown for seramas a day early! Seramas are supposedly a nineteen day hatch period, but I have had many that have gone to day 21 to hatch. They are so unpredictable and so sensitive, I do however lock them down on day seventeen rather than eighteen. I wish you...

How much should I charge to incubate eggs?

Just a personal note: I liked what mudstopper said and believe If it's worth doing it's worth doing right and if it's worth doing right it's only right for the one that wants the product to pay all costs incurred along with a fair profit. JMHO.

Anyone hatching on January 5th???? I got chickies everywhere!!! PICS

I am hatching sixteen Serama, two modern gamehens, and also seven cuckoo's and three barred rocks. I have candled all of the eggs twice and all look really good to this point, but I'm always unsure of the Seramas as a lot of them die just before hatch. I hate that but have come to accept and...

The true cost of backyard eggs!

Wayne you one of the few people I have heard that gives an honest cost of home grown eggs. When you consider the full cost they are expensive, Yes much healthier, but expensive. You gotta love whats going on with them cause if it's just about money. It's not a money maker but I love what I am...

Help with broody bantam not sure she is eating or drinking.

That was excellent infor from pampered pullet, the less you mess with them the better off your sitting hen will be and the better the outcome will be. Quit stressing the hen knows just what to do. Relax, relax, and relax again.

can you suggest a good incubator?

If your talking hatching is smaller numbers I would agree that the Brinsea is very hard to beat and very easy to operate. It basically does everything for you. Controls all vital functions. You just sit back and relax. A bit pricey, year but worth every penny.

Well I've gotta tell you pampered chick, the fact that your hatching during the winter puts a smile on my face, cause so am I and I love it. I'm hatching seramas, cuckoo marans, and barred rocks. I'm also building my own candler. So Merry Christmas and have a wonderful winter loving your...

I am sooo mad I could spit nails!

What an incredible injustice. I get furious with the stinking so called justice of this land. During a counseling session with my granddaughter who asked if she could come live with us to help her get off of drugs, I found out her stepfather had been raping her for a period of six years...

What to do about a close relative who invites themselves over?

All this rational sounds great, but remember according to the poster, this is not a rational woman. You can't reason with the unreasonable. It's still true! Actions speak louder than words. Throw her threw the screen door! (So to speak). Good lord where is the man of the house? When I got...
