Your Hoovers story? Spec. Small order experiences and COVID delivery times

The Hoover website currently says that order minimums are 20 per breed AND sex! Not sure what is going on there. I'm sure they are honoring prior orders, but it is definitely attention grabbing. Anyone with insight?

4 month old bantam mottled Cochins - sexes?

That would be mighty awesome...they all started getting red combs and wattles early, but then stalled out. I just couldn't get it out of my head that they might be cockerels.

4 month old bantam mottled Cochins - sexes?

These three youngsters don't seem to be in any hurry to let me know what they are for sure. It doesn't help that I'm not very good with the really fluffy birds. My guesses: #1 - pullet #2 - cockerel #3 - yeah, not real sure about #3.

8 week old bantam buff Brahmas - sexes?

I was pretty darn sure - but just couldn't believe that I'd gotten so many pullets. However, this hatchery (Cackle) does offer sexing on some of their bantams, so perhaps my order got mixed up a bit. Works for me...

8 week old bantam buff Brahmas - sexes?

I have 9 birds, only one of which is clearly identifiable as a rooster. The other 8 look like pullets. If I had ordered them sexed as pullets I'd be quite happy with this sex distribution - just one boy fooled the sexers at the hatchery. However, these were purchased as straight-run and I find...

6 week old bantam Cochins - pullets vs cockerels

The photo of the three birds in a cage I’m relatively confident are cockerels. The two birds to a cage are the question marks.

    Mille Fleur ?? and ??

These chicks are three weeks old. I ordered a grab bag of feather-legged bantams so that I have some clean Silkies and Cochins to raise Olive Eggers next year. I'm thinking I have four MF D'Uccles, in the first two photographs. Not sure about the bird on the right in the third photograph and in...

How in the heck do you sex a frizzle?

These guys are just 3 weeks old, and there certainly aren't any normal feather characteristics to go on, but I'm thinking the reds have to be girls and the blacks boys. Are you all comfortable with sexing by the comb at this age?

10 week old Silver Laced Wyandottes - gender?

Wyandottes are always perplexing to me, these are updated pictures from a few weeks ago. First two pictures are SLW candidate number 1, then SLW candidate number 2.

    How quickly do Silkies mature?

I'm thinking of getting some Silkies to hatch out eggs from my Ameraucanas. I'd like to know when I should expect Silkies to become broody.

7 week old Wyandottes, part 2

A couple more, different from the bird in the first post. one in the first post.

Male? The last photograph is a little more for fun...chillin' like villians...

How many eggs can you fit under a Silkie?

I'm looking to hatch out a relatively small number of eggs (less than 70) next spring and summer. I don't want to invest in a good brooder for such a small number of eggs and I learned my lesson this year about the cheaper brooders. Against my better judgement I tried one out, but stopped the...
