when I have a new bird I put it in a pen inside my chicken pen and let the old bird get used to the new bird. I have read that you should put the new birds in at night while the chickens are on the roost.

A skunk will kill and suck the blood from a chicken and then leave the body there. also weasle and mink do the same. I think your problem is a animal killing your chickens. when a skunk kills the head will be bloody and the throat will have a cut where they suck the blood.
a skunk can...

So far no fighting among the guineas and hens execpt a squabble now and then . I see the male guineas chasing a chicken ever now and then so I am watching them close. my hens are in a pen and the guineas are in the pen with them. my guineas will go out to roam in the spring. You male...
My guineas and my chickens are shareing living quarters this winter and so far they are getting along fine. This spring I plan to turn the guineas out to roam. I have EE and golden comet hens .I am getting a few blue/green eggs now. My guineas were hatched in July and august. I have 12 guineas...
The cock is envolved in the setting hen I have read , he guards her on the nest. would not take a lot of room about as much as a chicken. If you have a setting chicken I would set the eggs under the hen.
the chick with the red feathers might be male the other 2 are female I think. it is hard to tell your photos are small. I down loaded the one and tried to enlarge it to see if he had pointed feather in front of the tail and I thought I saw some but not sure.
mine chased the neighbor's cats out of our yard. funniest thing i ever saw. they seem to know the neighbor's dogs and ran at them but never at our dogs. go figure.
some cafes sell guinea and call it pheasant, they are dark meat. We had a flock when I was a girl growing up in the ozarks, they were wild and brother got a 22 for christmas he finally shot one we cleaned it and mama cooked it. It must have been old cause it was so tuff we could hardly eat it...
chickens and guineas are not any thing a like . to start the guineas flock together one moves they all move and if one gets left behind it will scream bloody murder unril it gets back into the group. as to where they go, they just go and i can't see any reason for them going here or there.My...
everyone says you need at least 10. I think you need more than 3 . a male and female team up to mate. an extra female sometimes get a night on the town with the lone male but as a rule the extra female will live the life of a nun. I wouldn't want 2 males and a female. I would think the fight...
My spring chicks are not laying well, I read on here others having the same problems.
In febuary things should improve. My golden comets have just gone thro' molt and they are laying better than the easter eggs that were hatched march 17,2010. maybe the leghorns will settle down and be calmer...
you could I suppose but who would want too? I read some where some one had an all male flock and they said the males didn't fight. The male flock would be much less annoying as the racket. The females are much louder it seems to me. you might be thinking you want the females because they lay...
