    Our last bird :(

I am not sure how to start but my flock had an unfortunate day yesterday. The heat was too much. We filled the water with ice and took them out to put some ice on their legs but we found them this morning :(. We are devastated but there is still one bird left, our buff Orpington. I am not sure...

    New Pullet Problems

I have two other hens but they are separated from the 3yo hen because of major fighting. A trip to vet was even involved. Then I got the pullet just last week to accompany my 3yo one because she has been like that for a long time and is getting lonely. Thanks for the advice!

    New Pullet Problems

Only the pullet is new. The other is larger and is 3 yo. The coops they live in are pretty close by but the small pen they were in was just while I was cleaning the coop. I also put a towel up so they can’t see each other for now. The size and age difference is pretty big, so I was going to wait...

    New Pullet Problems

Recently I have purchased a new pullet. I posted a thread a while ago about a lonely chicken. A lot of people said to get another and I love new chickens, so I did and here we are. She is a 5 month old (according to the seller; she seems a little small) Barred Rock hen. Her name is Daisy. I have...

How should I deal with a chicken at the bottom of the pecking order?

Thanks! That sounds like a great idea. It seems like, so far, introducing a chicken or more than one is the suggested option.

I live in San Jose. I am on the border and I am right next to Santa Clara.

How should I deal with a chicken at the bottom of the pecking order?

I have had to separate my 3 hens into 2 coops. There has been intense fighting in the past including a trip to the vet. Two of them always pick on Peepo, a Black Australorp. For some reason they always go for her eyes or her comb and wattle. The trip to the vet was because her eye was...

What kind of sand is okay for coop?

I am switching to sand also. I am buying the all-purpose sand and you can get it pretty cheap at about $12 for 150 pounds.

    Eglu/Omlet concerns/warning

I bought an Eglu and it arrived in the mail. I was excited to put it together but it was a pain. I’m still not done because the rear top panel of the run won’t fit in the gap in the coop. It is too big. Has anyone else had this problem?
