    Rooster Flocks!

Here is a photo of JimmyRoo ... err on his favourite chair watching tv :\ Jimmy was the whitest of the bunch the rest had patches of brown on their feathers and I think the person that told me to drown them probably meant to cull them apparently its usual to send fillers when an order isn't...

    Rooster Flocks!

McMurray sent us 6 roosters as fillers, I called to report that we had lost some of the fancy chicks I had ordered and asked about the ones with the blue marks on their heads and was told to drown them, that wasn't going to happen. So we ended up with our batchelor gang. We kept them with the...

    Pekin Duck Club!

The Crazy Gang have been at it again, firstly they've found a way to escape the coop at night so we are going to have to get creative with nightly lockdown. Being woken at 4am by ducks doing yet another rain dance is beginning to wear thin. Oh and rain dancing, they were told .. they were...

    Pekin Duck Club!

wondered why we were only getting a couple of eggs a day and then I discovered Mad Gladys is at it again, she has a nest tucked away under the coop with 10 eggs in a neat little bowl of straw. She seems to spend quite a bit of time out and about with the crazy gang and sleeps inside the coop...

The brand was Saratoga Vetinary Products 100% natural. Nutritional analysis for 14grams gives 5.00mg Niacin. I added one scoop which is 14mg to my ducks dry feed each day.

Just an FYI, I bought brewers yeast (B3 niacin) from our local feed store, it is marketed for horses so comes in a huge tub for around $12. It has a measuring spoon in it so I add it to their feed.

    Pekin Duck Club!

We had our ducklings in a stock tank for a while, when they out grew it we moved them to the garage (it was still too cold to put them outside) so we built them a coop and laid down some artificial grass carpet and enclosed the whole thing with chicken wire. They took to their coop right away...

We never really knew what breed they were they looked a little like a leghorn but some had brown spots and jimmy had a definite golden cape and hackle. I think maybe some sort of hybrid sex link that the hatchery usually gets rid of once they are sexed ? I have since found out that the DNR...

Jimmyroo was free ranging so he was always susceptible to predators. The rest of our flock is in a run which has heavy tree cover and the ducks have netting over the top of their run as they are also not the brightest when there are airborn predators although I have been out when there was a...

We arrived home yesterday to an eerie silence. Our bonus rooster Jimmyroo usually comes to greet us but he was missing. We found him later, he was the victim of a hawk who killed him but didn't really even bother to try to eat him. Sad sad day, Jimmyroo was one of 6 chicks that were sent...

The snow is finally beginning to recede and the Crazy gang have rediscovered their pond, all be it frozen solid. Their pen is a veritable mud bath so you can imagine the ducks are not white. Add to this Madass Gladys who has decided now is a good time to get broody, shes made a lovely nest...

Spring is coming, the sap is rising and our roosters aren't getting along. So I have to rehome my Dominique rooster Rocky. He keeps picking on my boy Galahad (a cochin) so its time. I live in Harbor Springs, he is 11 months old and FREE. I don't mind traveling a bit to bring him to you...

The Crazy Gang are mucky ducks, they found a patch of mud and had some fun with it. The temps here have been up a bit so we provided them with some extra water and they [somewhat] bathed. They do look a little better by oi vey ! they are some vocal mucky duckies

    The Duck Thread

My pekins have had enough snow, they come out to feed and get fresh water and then bundle back inside. I'm still collecting an egg or two a day but overall they remain unimpressed with the great white north. Next year we will build a larger snow and wind proof day shelter for them as the...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Our Speckled Sussex rooster attacked my boy Galahad today. We have bought Galahad in for the night and cleaned him up, the SS roo is a goner, he's off to camp Kenmore. Is there anything I should put on his wounds? He seems to have patches mainly around his beak, comb and back of his head.
