Hello! I have a question for you all. This may be a stupid question, but does pinioning quail prevent them from boinking? I have considered trying this but I don’t want to go through the process unless it works. My concern is they still would be able to fly because the actual wing is used for...
I agree. Remember the humble wild turkey is native to North America. They can withstand quite cold temperatures, and are smaller than domestic turkeys. Just know they will try and roost in the trees like previously stated. Good luck and have fun!
I had a RIR hen missing ALL the feathers on her back, tail, and elbows. I applied petroleum jelly on the cold nights of winter, but she survived! I bet a hen is doing that. Once you get rid of the picker, it will get better. Hope this helps!
Remember, rescuing them wasn't for nothing even if they get eaten. If you provided them with everything they needed and are happy, you did everything anyone could ask for.
Yes, that is the down side to peepers. I kept mine in a fenced in area while the peepers were on. If you suspect roo damage, I've heard about hen saddles. If never made it used them, but from what I've read, they work! If I am wrong, please correct me.
I suffered a similar problem. In our case, we tried everything. If you have a persistent picker, there is no fixing the problem until you get rid of the pickers. One of the hens that was a picker was a bully even as a chick. If you have a bird like this, it might be the only solution. I would...
Thanks! I think I will feed layer when the babies start clucking. I have my chickens on chick feed, and I have calcium available for my girls. I think this feed will work temporarily, until I run out and buy some better feed.
You have very pretty birds! They reminded me of my sweet Lavendula that I had to euthanize about a month ago. The poor girl had a knee injury that was not fixable. Would you consider selling some fertile eggs in the spring? Your birds made my day!
