    New lil nuggets

Altogether I have 9 from 3 different hens. Predators got a few, and I grabbed as many as I could to brood in a safer place. I have 13 in the incubator too, fingers crossed for the tiny OEGB with Serama cross!!

    A new Serama-sized game bantam

These are SO HARDY and FAST. Hatched 2 hens and a roo identical to those shown here. They are 9 months old, and have just produced 7 babies. (There were 12, lost a few to predation.) I love these chickens. My flock is these guys, two terrorfowl roosters who get along great, three terrorfowl...

    Landrace/adaptive breeding discussion

I’m fully free ranging all of my chickens. I have three hens who wandered out of the woods with biddies this week, in below freezing temps. They are all fine, I also have a yard full of cats and neighbor dogs on both sides. Chickens are metal.

Serama: at what age a serama pullet start to lay egg?

Gorgeous Seramas! Mine just starting laying, hatch date was May 30! Sadly they are both hens, so we will have a very tiny omelette.

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Been dealing with a sick hubby. 😭 But chickens are doing well and keeping me sane!! I fell in love with the most gorgeous pair of turkeys today but restrained myself. Only now I’m worried they’ll be someone’s dinner 😭

Someone help!! Never had this happen......:(

UPDATE!!!! Thank you all so much for being here for me and my first real PROBLEM since we started being duck/chicken addicts. Well, we shot and killed the raccoon with the .22. Really the only option as it already had a taste for chicken. Yes there are probably more on the property, but we...

Someone help!! Never had this happen......:(

Thank you everyone. I do have an animal trap, and I had to shoot one of my favorite chickens yesterday, and lost two more the same 24 hour period. I will have ZERO problem shooting that raccoon. My animal loving husband might not let me, in which case I guess I'll trap it and drop it off...

Someone help!! Never had this happen......:(

Good news and Worse news. Good news is, I do not appear to have any bully chickens or killer Pekins. Bad news is, lost two more chickens last night. HAS to be a raccoon, and we built the coop to be predator proof. There is hardware wire, and then that is wrapped with chicken wire all the...

Do 1 day old chick need dark at night?

I had a very experienced chicken farmer tell me that it doesn't matter about the light. They go to sleep at night regardless. When they are babies, most important is the heat!! The temperature will kill them if they are not warm enough. If you are worried about it, you can get the red light...

I think my chicks are ready for the coop. But I have questions/concerns

I actually have done it both ways. Our first batch had lights until they went into outside coop, and then just went "cold turkey" into the dark. They did used to cry at night if the light was off (I live in FL...did NOT need it for heat, our AC is currently broken!!) and so we'd turn one on for...

How many ducks can this coop support?

Yep, I agree with the above posters. I have six huge eight week old Pekins in a coop with chickens and they do just fine. They love their outside time, eating plants and bugs, and swimming in the kiddie pool, but for bedtime, they follow the chickens in. Getting ready to move them, however...

Someone help!! Never had this happen......:(

Thank you JackE....they would definitely be crowded with the huge Pekins in there with them. And, the four chickens (three now :( ) That have gotten to be good sized. The rest, 11, are still babies. Maybe 4-6 weeks old, so they'd have enough room. Thinking I will boot the ducks out...

Someone help!! Never had this happen......:(

Thank you rook....I will do that this weekend....the chickens were definitely pecking at it, just can't figure out who did the actual initial injury! They're all still so young! Not even crowing/laying yet, I mean, they're only 2 months!
