    2 Hens, 1 Rooster

Thank you so much for the advice. After much discussion and research, my family has finally decided that giving our rooster to a semi-local farm that will find a home for it, will be our best option! Thank you again!

Buff Orpingtons 3 M.O. - Hens or Roosters? Help!

My chickens are now about 4 months old and we have experienced exactly the same thing except for different breeds. We thought that 2/3 of our chickens were roosters, although one turned out to actually be a rooster, none of yours really look like they are. We had the same differences in comb...

    Newbie signing in

Hi! I found this site when looking up things about my chicks also, and it has been terrific and very helpful ever since! So far my family has raised 3 chickens although sadly we have recently discovered that we will have to give away 1 of our chickens because it has turned out a rooster! I hope...

    Ceramic eggs under attack

Well I don't know what kind of animal would be making bite marks, but snakes have very small teeth or none at all. A snake with venom would only leave two tooth marks from fangs, although one without would probably leave very many small pricks if it could puncture the ceramic. Snakes normally...

    What Breed are my chickens???

I don't know for sure what breed of chickens you have, but most likely they are produce chickens because of their classic yellow feathers. It is probably a good idea to look up yellow chicks or different breeds on Google or Bing (whatever you use to search) and just see if any pictures or...

    2 Hens, 1 Rooster

Thank you so much for this information, it is really helpful! I looked up chicken saddles and that seems like a reasonable option, although there are still other things to consider as the rooster may later disturb our neighbors as he crows more frequently. If everything turns out fine, and we...

    2 Hens, 1 Rooster

Recently my family discovered that one of our three chickens is a rooster. Although we understand that it may not be possible to keep, everyone is still trying their best to get around any problems. I read an article, here on BackYard Chickens, that mentioned probable "over-mating" and that ten...

    Surprise Rooster

Here are 2 pictures of my cuckoo maran, sorry that the pictures are so big! Her tail feathers are kinda down right now, but sometimes she likes to point them up.

    Surprise Rooster

Hi everyone! This morning my family discovered that our hen is actually a rooster. We have 3 chickens that are probably around 4 months old. We have talked to the people who sold us the chickens and they informed us that as long as our neighbors don't mind the rooster, and no-one complains...

    Open mouthed cuckoo maran chick

My cuckoo maran chick is about 3-5 weeks old and I've noticed whenever I'm in the room we keep her in, she has her mouth open a lot. While the other 2 chicks are over eating or something she is normally lying down, again with her mouth open a lot. She does eat and drink normally just not at the...

I can't believe how big my babies are!

That it such a cute chick, I love how they grow up and look so funny with their bare necks. Also, you can feel their necks and feel if they ate any grit (which is really cool!)!

    Call me crazy!

Don't worry about it, I'm not gonna call you crazy, you should see some of the stuff that happens around here! Plus that's what your supposed to do with mountain lions and make yourself look big, but I think that it should work just as well with anything threatening your chickens!
