    bunny needs rescue

I need to rescue my neighbors bunnies. They are pretty big and need nail clipping (which I've never done) and one has terrible mites in its fur. I'm pretty sure he'll let me take them, as he doesn't care for them or anything. But I have no idea how to handle them or how to clip their toe...

Fleas! Can I use bedding in garden?

We've got fleas in the coop. After I deal with clean up, wondering if there's a way to still use the bedding in my garden? Can I put bedding in black plastic garbage bags and seal them up for awhile, then compost or does it all need to go in the garbage? Hate to waste the poop goodness.

    What's eating my chickens?!

Sorry, not sure how to capture other's comments. I'll try raking, it's pretty wet out so not sure how clear anything might be but good idea. No, I didn't move the trap, and I put it back out tonight with cat food in the same place. It's the only place I can put it without it getting bothered...

    What's eating my chickens?!

I did have a live trap out for 3 nights, it was baited with salmon that we use for crab bait. No bites at all. I can try again with cat food.

    What's eating my chickens?!

Help. Not really sure how but something is getting into my pretty secure chicken run for the last two nights and completely eating ONE chicken each night. To the bone. No other chicken is hurt or even seems flustered. We've had racoons before but they destroy many birds and don't seem to be as...

    Help! Terrible flea problem

Is there concern about collecting/using eggs that have come into contact with the sevin dust? I bought some today but don't really know how to best treat the chickens and keep them out of the new dust, is that a concern? Can they peck at it? I also bought some beneficial nematodes to eat the...

    Help! Terrible flea problem

I have 8 girls and they had fleas a few months ago. I cleaned out the coop, shop vac'd it and everything, and dumped a 4 lbs. of DE all over the place, scattered it about with a sieve in and out of the coop/run. I didn't see fleas on the birds, but they are a hard bunch to catch. Well, the...

How to let broody hen hatch eggs?

*** update. Never mind, I looked again. Found it! I looked quickly but didn't see a reference about the process of letting a broody hatch eggs. I'm sure there are things I should do. Can someone send me the info I'm sure is already posted here somewhere? Thanks!

    Urgent! wet and muddy chicks

We recently got 10 chicks and 2 ducklings. We put them in the same small brooding box for a short spell but the ducks have made a mess of it and I went down to check them after work. Standing water and muddy chicks! They are filthy and miserable looking. Obviously I will separate the chicks...

    fall vs. spring chicks

Hi, We got our first batch of chicks in the spring a few years back, then the second batch in the fall last year. We are going to add again, but wonder if anyone has any thoughts about the pros and cons of spring vs. fall chicks? I know that fall born hens will probably molt the following...

    Deciding which hens becomes dinner

I know it sounds crass, but we have a small backyard flock for the eggs first and foremost. I really love our birds but we need to keep in fresh layers to keep up egg production. Our older girls (5 of them) were spring chicks we got 2 1/2 years ago. The two other girls we got last fall...

AGH! We forgot the grower feed!

So as I was looking up info. for my last post about feed, I realized that we didn't give our newest chickens (fall chicks) any grower feed, we just kept on with the starter feed until we put them in the coop with the big girls, then they got the layer feed. Oh No! :bo:barnie No wonder they seem...
