Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Let them decide, if they are not going under then it is probably too hot. They will be your best inclination of whether or not it needs to be adjusted as it varies especially if it is already hot outside. Very cute chicks.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

They do that to provide warmth, and to get rid of unwanted cockerals. At least this way they get a chance to grow before they are put in the freezer.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

No, the ones that I ordered were hens. Of the 11 packing peanuts they sent it looks like 1 is going to be a hen. I am just glad that they sexed that one wrong and sent her as a packing peanut as she is the friendliest one that I have.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Nice looking bunch. I have several Buff Brahma that were sent as packing peanuts, actually they sent 10 and I was able to give 8 away to my brother to raise as meat birds. I kept 2, one of which looks to be a hen. She is the friendliest one that I have, she likes to roost on my arm.

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

It does look like they gave you a mixture. Mine were easy to tell, I ordered 3 Amaraucana, 3 White Leghorn, 3 Gold Sex-Link, and 3 Austalorp. They added 11 Buff Brahma. It looks like one of those will be a hen.

That's the great thing about the MHP, they learn to sleep at night because they don't have a light shining on them 24/7.:celebrate

Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

If it is 80°, they definitely do not need a heat lamp. At 80° mine were barely using the heat pad. Try it without the lamp and watch them, if they huddle togrther then they need some heat.
