Bee’s in the chicken feed – should I worry?

Thank you for that valuable information. I really did not know that pumpkin flowers are of little use to bees. The trees in flower are of the eucalyptus species but they too are going off flower with the changing season. There must then be a shortage of some kind in the hive to make them look...

Bee’s in the chicken feed – should I worry?

Just linking on the the previous discussion about honey bees in the chicken feed, I have a bee hive in my chicken run, both get on perfectly well together and have for about a year now. Yesterday the bees out of the blue started feeding ferociously on the layer meal and have driven off my...

Sorry I forgot to add that I live in South Africa ("Jungle Law" applies here, hehe) but I don't subscribe to that rule of law. To keep my chickens safe I will have to keep them in a confined space, away from harms way as there is nothing worse than seeing a chicken slowly disintegrating to...

In a nut shell that is how the police see it. No evidence, no case. I have ordered another two cameras with 50 meter cable to get up really close! I intend to disguise the cable by feeding it through a hose pipe lying on the ground to the camera position. I will share on Youtube if successful.

Thank you for your support. Sorry about your dog. Our Australian shepherd puppy was poisoned last year I think inadvertently trying to get to my chickens. She was in intensive care for 3 days. She is alive and the most beautiful dog but very finicky when it comes to eating now. I am so...

Thanks Flock Master, I will follow your advice should I have another chicken death not of natral causes or retrieve a poison carrier device/fruit. I appreciate your advice and from all the other like minded chicken lovers, they have all been very helpful.

Thank you for that advice, much appreciated. I am pretty much convinced a neighbor is not happy with my chickens so I am seriously thinking of finding a home for them to prevent the suffering of them. I have been keeping chickens for 6 years now with the same neighbors for that period so it is...

    Poisened chickens

I will be enclosing my whole chicken run with 3 meter high netting and will step the run in by 3 meters along two vulnerable sides. My hens will have a slightly smaller run about 90m²(the new run) but a lot safer.

Thank you for replying, yes I have reported the poisoning to the police but as usual "What evidence to you have sir?" is always their reply and yes I also have two video cameras running continuously but I have a large ERF and the night vision only covers a few meters so a fig can easily be...

    Poisened chickens

Last year I lost 10 chicken presumably by poison. This year so far, I have lost 2 and today I have another one showing the same symptoms. Someone laces a single fig with an unknown poison and throws it over my fence. I discovered one last year which had struck a branch of my oak tree and fallen...
