Poisened chickens

Thank you for that advice, much appreciated.

I am pretty much convinced a neighbor is not happy with my chickens so I am seriously thinking of finding a home for them to prevent the suffering of them. I have been keeping chickens for 6 years now with the same neighbors for that period so it is a bit confusing for me.
I have been gradually moving away from traditional gardening to a permaculture self sustainable garden with only enough grass for the dogs to play on, to a food garden with crops and lucern/barley/corn etc patches to help feed for the chickens some greenery. I have also built a permaculture chook dome which is totally out of sight,hidden behind trees and shrubs.

I think therein lies the problem.

There is no proof of poisoning. Either a fig or a chicken must be analyzed to prove it. You can spend thousands of dollars on high tech security equipment and devices possibly for naught if it isnt poisoning. Even with security equipment, cameras, 12 foot high chainlink fencing, combination electrified barbed wire with concertina wire and loud sirens, patrol dogs....if someone is determined enough to poison your birds...it WILL happen no matter what you have in place. Get a necropsy done, it'll be cheaper, maybe free.
I know: I used to be a physical security specialist in the Navy.

Thanks Flock Master, I will follow your advice should I have another chicken death not of natral causes or retrieve a poison carrier device/fruit. I appreciate your advice and from all the other like minded chicken lovers, they have all been very helpful.

this makes me so angry about the poliece! your evidence is poisened chickens for God sakes! some help they are! I'm so sorry! guess you have to take matters into your own hands now.Gosh everything has to be on tape now days! i had a dog once that got poisened very sad people can be so cruel and awful! again I'm soooo sorry!

Thank you for your support. Sorry about your dog.

Our Australian shepherd puppy was poisoned last year I think inadvertently trying to get to my chickens. She was in intensive care for 3 days. She is alive and the most beautiful dog but very finicky when it comes to eating now.

I am so appreciative of the fact that I am able to share my story with like minded people at Backyard chickens, thank you to everyone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~And I'm a chicken Dentist...The symptoms he described was indeed poisoning...And the FIG??..Without any kind of deterant such as cameras to possibly ID someone, be it a kid, old man, woman, etc. what good it it to know what was used if you don't follow up with trying to catch the perpetrator???..In Florida, you could get a necropsy done at the University of Florida Vetrinary School of medicine....Ask a vet who to go to or the dept of Ag in your state....any type of vandalism in florida on an Agricultural site is a felony, be it a nursery, aquaculture facility, farm, whatever...The results of the necropsty mean nothing without a direct method of identifying the person doing the poisoning.....Get your cameras & lights & if it happens again, you may have some proof..What happened in the past, is the past, with no evidence, means nothing to any law enforcement officer.....RR~~~~~~~~~
In a nut shell that is how the police see it. No evidence, no case.
I have ordered another two cameras with 50 meter cable to get up really close! I intend to disguise the cable by feeding it through a hose pipe lying on the ground to the camera position.
I will share on Youtube if successful.
Quote: Shows you how much you know goofball. The OP doesnt live in Florida. Analysis of a fig or necropsy of chicken identifying a poison will be proof positive to file a legitimate police report. Then police can increase patrols in the area, help set up a crime watch neighborhood, the OP can present the police report to his insurance company for claim purposes.
Sorry I forgot to add that I live in South Africa ("Jungle Law" applies here,hehe) but I don't subscribe to that rule of law.
To keep my chickens safe I will have to keep them in a confined space, away from harms way as there is nothing worse than seeing a chicken slowly disintegrating to nothing and clearly in pain.
Thanks again everyone, sorry to have caused a scrap.
