Howdy all. Sorry it's been forever since writing anything.
According to a visitor, I have 5 hens out of 21 chickens. What would be the most efficient way to correct the ratio?
Mass slaughter and chicken for the next month straight? Or is anyone looking for roughly 4 month old RIR roosters...

Your insurance company feels better that your fire extinguishers have been "inspected." Now that they feel better they won't raise your rates.
On the plus side you could be unemployed, with multiple children and a wife to feed and no chickens old enough to slaughter to feed them with.

Thanks. I'm hoping to find someone who sells black laced wyandottes there, but it seems I may have to do special order.
Oh.. thanks. Yes I am looking for the silver laced. They're so pretty.
Does anyone have any 9 week old barred rock hens for sale? My wife's favorite rooster was killed by something (saw a hawk on top of the enclosure). He was a black sex link but looked like a barred rock. I would like to replace him with 3 rock hens if possible. Thanks in advance.

I may not be knowledgeable on chickens, but I know my cats, and that was a bobcat.
MM, I raise chickens as a hobby. My occupation is aircraft mechanic at our local Air Force Base. I don't have a whole lot of time to spend on them besides feeding them, watering them, and cleaning...

Check the tab at bottom of the sack If its 20-28% protein It will be fine. Can you post the crude Protien % for me and is it medicated or none medicated? Also are you only feeding it to the 8 week old RiR's or do you have more birds who will eat the same feed? Starter grower is...
Ok... where do I start? Send DD after chicken feed... I have 8 week old RIR's. She came back with 100# of starter/grower. Can I use it, or is it going to ruin their digestive tract, cause feather plucking, or some other weirdness in birds?

A little perspective is in order. In video 3 or 4 he said the Flu was never as lethal as H5N1. Sorry, gotta call bulls**t on that one. the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 caused 50 million deaths (3% of the global population which would be 300 million if it broke out today).

I suspect a raccoon. An electric fence (Hotwire) at top and bottom of the fence should keep them out. another alternative is to wait at night until they make another raid and exterminate them with extreme prejudice with a firearm, crossbow, bow, or high power airgun (Benjamin...
Other question. sorry for the second post, I notice they eat more if I put their feed outside. Should I have their feeder inside or outside? I moved it inside for the rain, but when it's not raining I move it out. Does it matter?
According to "Raising chickens for dummies" I'm not supposed to feed layer pellets to a chicken that's not old enough to lay yet. (Roosters are ok if they're with laying hens)
Here's the question, am I supposed to segregate by age? I have some day old chicks in a brooder, and 7 week old...
Today was not my day. After locking up the chicken run, and getting some replacement chicks and getting them in a brooder (A converted rabbit cage) I go to pick up my Daughter from work. When I get back there's a black snake making its escape from the brooder with a bulge in it. I get a...

I suppose it is technically possible. There might be enough space between the net and chicken wire fence to let a mink in. I didn't see any bite marks... just 2 dead birds in the coop. I'm almost beginning to suspect my neighbor. the mason jar feeder was knocked over too.

LOL's from the do it yourselfer.
I decided to make my own 2 gallon feeder. Everything was fine until I made the holes on the bottom of the bucket too big. The chickens scattered the pellets everywhere and are furiously digging the pellets back up off the ground. Fortunately my first...
