Hole in neck skin. Need advice on how to treat

I have had a raccoon tear up my roosters head bad. Antibacterial ointment, a week in basement hospital(haha) and TLC worked for him. Then the neighbors dog has torn up 2 hens pretty bad, tears in the skin bleeding, the works. I spray them with this stuff called zn7 that I have for cat/dog wounds...

    Hi I need some help!

she is acting like my broody hens have been acting, the puffed up beak scraping cluck-dashing.. I dont have much advice as to get her cooped up, I am having trouble getting my mommies with chicks to coop up at night myself. (although they sat on their eggs in the nest boxes in the coop.) Maybe a...

    Fox Attack!

I am having the same issue at my house right now. I supervise the free range time of my birds for about an hour a day, with a bb gun to scare it off if it comes back. It was really bold the day it grabbed a hen- it came back 4 times while I was standing around trying to get everyone gathered up...

wondering about adding eggs later to a clutch?

Well I added 6 more eggs on the third day. I do not have an incubator, so that was not an option for me. I have been making sure she gets up and out of the coop once a day to eat and drink and such, she seems to be doing fine. Expecting hatching to start around Thurs- thru the weekend. I cant wait!

broody hen not wanting to stand or walk

I have what I am hoping is my first broody hen, this is only her second day, but all the signs are there. Plucked breast feathers, staying on nest, does a lot of cooing- but isnt grumpy, fluffed up feathers. So the question I have is that I took her out of the box to eat and drink and poop (all...

    Fart eggs

also if she just started laying, they lay small eggs to start, so maybe thats it? although a year is kinda old to be just starting to lay, might just have a special mini egg layer.

    Fart eggs

what is a fart egg? Ive never heard of it, but I have had a couple of weird soft shelled broken messy ones under the roost when I go out to let the girls out in the morning. maybe those were "fart eggs" too?

    Rooster violently attacking?

I had 2 banty roos, one was a flogger and drew blood on me,and attacked my children in particular. We tried everything water squirt bottle, sticks to shoo him, etc, to make him stop- to no avail (although he was hard to catch to carry, he'd flog and run). I with reluctance decided to have someone...

Will mama hen protect her chicks?

I have a broody hen (I hope! only day 2!) I have been wondering the same thing! I have a large dog house with a homemade wire door that I am going to move her to (and leave in the coop) if she keeps it up, I wonder if that will be enough seperation for her once the chicks hatch.. guess I will...
