Please help us spread the word about, as well as joining us for the fall/winter classic poultry show hosted by the Pacific Northwest Poultry Association. Our show will feature hundreds of beautiful birds (chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, & guineas), breed club meets, vendors, raffles, poultry...
You're welcome. She looks like a typical hatchery Ameraucana. Sometimes they do lack muffs-- which may be why they refer to them as 'Easter Eggers' since they lack that classic breed traits. She has the correct comb & shank colour for that breed. Her plumage pattern is what often comes from...
While a lovely bird, this is definitely not a Partridge Penedesenca. Feathering is too 'Welsummer' like, comb & conformation are not correct. Also, as a wee chick the shanks would truly be blue-- not dusky coloured. At her present age, there should be a larger wattle and earlobe.....
I've personally raised over 75 breeds of chickens, and would highly recommend bantam breeds as their compact size is ideal for the backyard. Good bantam layers that are quiet are Ameraucanas, Wyandottes, Old English or Modern Games (though these do like to talk; their voices aren't too loud)...
I am another person (who is active in the poultry exhibition scene) and have yet to hear of a Golden Sumatra. I have also seen the 'Khaki' Sumatras on ebay and think they are a cross of some sort (or an odd sport) that does not show good breed characteristics.
I also keep my roosters together...
I agree with the above. It's hard to know how much they are truly ingesting, and excess calcium on a developing body can be harsh. When I have mixed ages with contact with each other, I feed 'developer' food and then put out an ample amount of another calcium source like oyster shell-- though...
I am taking this approach. I use herbs/garlic for worming and have so far been successful. (As I have easy access to lab testing I check for the efficacy regularly.) For me, this approach makes sense and will lead to birds that are more resistant, provided they are getting a good diet and...

I think the quality of your yard and soil, your climate and the type of plants you have will have a lot to do with whether they destroy it or not.
I had a green lawn, lush 2' tall groundcovers under the trees, and various other grasses/weeds growing. My three chooks have completely...
I like the strategy that Peter Mayle's wife used in "A Year in Provence". When the builder's on their home renovation were behind, she invited their spouses to a party she was throwing on a certain date to show off the house. The work all got done on time & with beautiful results. They had a...
Best wishes on a good outcome to your predicament. The world needs more people who will stand up for that they believe in & not be cowed by a dissenting neighbour. Yes, there are two sides to every situation, but chickens are far less noisy than dogs, car alarms, 4am garbage truck visits, etc...
x2; but both LF & Bantams have pea combs. If she is around the same size as your Silkie (& the same age) then she is a bantam. A LF at 5 months would be substantially larger than the Silkie....
