Anyone hatching chicks right now? Looks like I might have a singleton hatch. I don’t usually start chicks this early in the year, but let a friend convince me it was a good idea.
Looks like white and IB split pied/white. The second chick could be purple split pied/white, as the rooster in that pen is carrying purple. But it may just be the lighting. Nice job hatching!!
Hello. I was able to switch my shift so that’s I can come. Here’s what I can bring for birds:
-March hatch Spitzhauben pullets in silver spangled, blue, & splash and a couple cockerels of blue/cream coloration
-a couple spitz yearling hens in blue & citron spangled
-pea eggs from Spalding...
Good to know. Do u do any extra turning in addition to what the bator does? And have u tried starting the eggs under a broody then moving them to this bator?
I’m using an RCom max 20 this year. It rolls the eggs 1x/hour. Last year I started pea eggs under broody Chickens and finished them in a brinsea 20 advance with a decent hatch rate. The turning cradle for the brinsea is very flimsy tho & I don’t really trust it for another season.
Pea eggs sometimes do better incubated on their sides. If u have an auto-turner that works w that configuration, great. Supplemental turning (in addition to the auto turner) can be helpful too.
Tho I’m currently scheduled to work that day, I should be able to switch my shift. If so, this is what I plan to bring:
For the raffle: bottle of wine
Food: tray of brownies
Birds/eggs: I have a few yearling spitz hens available, a yearling pair of Spalding BSWE peafowl, and a couple of 2yo IB...
