    Incubator fell during hatch HELP!

The last one with the membrane, would be good to read up the Article section on Assited hatching on this site. For a quick rundown, Dont assist as long as the membrane has veins. On exposed membrane, but bacitracin or neosporin (with NO pain relief additive in it) to wet the membrane so you can...

Topic of the Week - When Do Pullets Begin Laying?

My welsummer pullets officially stopped being freeloaders today! I got two eggs at 15 weeks from my 12 pullets. :wee One was a (small) brown double yolker, and the other was a nice speckled egg. The clues were the past week or so they were starting to squat for me when I went in their run, and...

Topic of the Week - When Do Pullets Begin Laying?

I have 12 welsummer pullets and a few of them are starting to do the sqaut when I come in the coop run, so I have the nest box ready with the ceramic egg in them to show them where to lay. They hatched in late January so are just about 3.5 months old now. Many of them have gotten very bright red...

oh i thought they were at hatch day and you were worried. No I wouldn't put in safety holes before hatch day..unless the majority of the chicks hatched one day early and there were stragglers. Then Id check for the air cell and put in safety holes even if I couldnt tell they pipped internally...

Oh yea if you hear peeping it probably has internally pipped, also the irregular shape is a sign. If the hold is small enough even if it hasn’t pipped it’s usually ok... that’s been my experience anyhoo

I haven’t done duck but with chickens it a small tiny hole only in the air cell and barely thru the membrane in the air cell. If it’s big enough to see in its too big and you risk shrink wrapping. Like the article says, the author just uses the tip of a screw to just break thru to give them air

I wand to keep a small rooster flock back by the barn so they dont bother my neighbor closer to the house where I keep the hens so I can enjoi them. I want to keep at least 4 of two different breeds,so they definitely would be too noisy in the morning to be able to keep them by the house.

    Who is against no-crow collars?

I live on acreage where Roos are allowed and want to keep them behind my house so I can easily access/ Enjoi them. I won’t do a crow collar, it seems so unnatural. Roosters are such handsome creatures and were created to crow! However right behind my house means I’m in hearing range on neighbors...
