    Dirty Cornish

I find that using smaller pine flake and stirring it a couple times a day helps. When they are four weeks old I bathe my show broilers in warm water and blow dry them. I just use a mild shampoo and a separate tub for rinsing. They seem to like it once they get used to it. I do it about once or...

OMG. My cornish X are getting huge. Pic.

Only fed Honor Show Chow 30% and 22.5% , no supplements other than Broiler Max vitamins. Thanks for the nice comments.

Sorry, I almost forgot to tell showbird that I use McFeeter's pine flakes. Super absorbant and costs about the same as any other shavings.

Well, the kids did really good. Out of 89 pens of birds, they finished 3rd and 5th overall. I was really proud of them. We got beat by older kids who have earned the win. I am confident that we will win, may just take a few tries. We weighed in at 19.0lbs and 19lbs 8oz for a pen of two. The next...

When do they stop growing? Pictures included!

I guess 9.25 lbs. Hard to tell.

can rabbits eat meat bird chicken feed?

I wouldn't try it. Rabbit feed is primarily grass based, chicken feed is primarily corn and soy. I don't think it would be a good idea. Our rabbits are on Showrite. It is 17% protein and costs about $16/bag for a 40 lb. bag. You can get rabbit pellets cheaper than that though. I don't even know...

Three days before we weigh in. Wish us luck. My kids are really excited, maybe not as much as I am though. I just hope they have fun. They avg. 8 1/2 lbs. at six weeks old today! Really muscular in the breast, I just wish I knew which four to take.

Disapointing Cornish Rock Harvest - What are we doing wrong?

Our broilers go through at least 15lbs./ bird in six weeks every time. Sometimes more.

remadl700, we all have to pick them up at our local 4H office. Not sure what hatchery they use. DelcoChix, our fair is next week, I am hoping it cools down a little more, mainly for the animal's sake. Thank you for the good luck wish. We will need it, we always have stiff competition. Good luck...

    Looking good enough to eat

It seems to me that the ones we never intended to process from the start pretty much became pets to us. I think that is fairly normal when you care for them.

Itsy, we do eat the ones that don't go to the show, but the ones that sell at the show are bought in bulk and paid back to the buyer. The kids say it is the best chicken they have ever had. Tracydr, we only use feed that is medicated with Amprolium because it prevents Coccidiosis and requires...

    growth of meat birds

I agree. I would look into the protein content and use a light. Be sure you aren't using a layer ration. I keep a fan blowing over our coop horizontally just to keep air moving but not blowing directly on them. Our are inside too. Roughly 7 1/2 to 8 lbs on average at 38 days. We weigh in at the...

Five weeks and three days. I can't believe how fast they grow. I marvel at them every year.

    Lets talk feed

18% is a little on the low side, so I would give them free choice. Just my opinion, but I feed free choice all the time. Ours still chase down bugs when they see them. I don't think anyone has all the answers, but if you feed them good, and care for them like you obviously do, you should be...

    Lets talk feed

I know that some of you may disagree with me on this issue, but this is my fourth year raising broilers for show and I have had way better results with higher protein feeds. Our Cornish X are only five weeks old right now and they are 7-8 lbs. live weight. I don't know how much of that is...
