So our Bug ended up being blue. He's a runner call cross! Oops!
And Lady, another duckling we hatched, I have no idea what colour she is but I'm leaning towards Apricot Silver. But if anyone has any clue please let me know! I'm very curious and also wondering which of my calls must have mated...
I've gone through and read a lot of that thread! I'll be collecting as much as I can all over the internet. Having the age and other information will just make it a lot smoother for me to organize. :highfive:
Hello,
As the title says, I'm looking for all kinds of pictures of call ducks, and if you have them, ducklings. I've noticed that it can be hard to find good pictures of different colours and especially of their colours when they are ducklings.
I'm starting a project to create a complete...
It's been a little over a day and so far so good! She's eating and drinking and pooping normally from what I can see. She is SO small though... I've never seen one so tiny in my life. Look at the size difference on both of them just a few hours after hatching!
And next to her sister (four...
I'm so sorry about your losses :( Its hard because there really isn't much you can do about hawks if you want your ducks to be able to roam as they please... We kept ours in a pen during the day for about a week after but I felt really bad because they were missing swimming in the river. So I...
Will polysporin complete be okay? Thats what I have on hand right now.
We picked up some vitamins to put in her water later...
Thank you all so much for your advice. I'll update the thread with her status. So far she's just in the incubator and already doing way better after seeming half dead...
Just had a batch of eggs that my friend has been hatching and we had this little girl stuck who needed help out today (call). I wasn't sure if her navel was normal, she seems very weak, can any experts let me know if there is anything I need to do to make sure she's okay? Vitamins/antibiotics...
Thanks for explaining it so simply. I'll keep everyone updated on how she turns out!
Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if you know how a call duck can be "self chocolate/blue/black" etc when the Black allele causes bibbing? Or what gene causes "magpie" or other colours like "splash" or...
If she is chocolate, is there a way she could have got the gene from her mother (who could have been the lavender splash duck)? I still don't exactly understand how sex linked genes works.
Another photo because why not!
And to give more detail, my guess of her blue bibbed father's genetic info based off the information that his mother was white and his father being either grey or blue fawn:
M+M+ Li+Li+ e+E Blbl+ C+c B+B+ r+r+ D+D+ Bu+Bu
Hard to say about the mother's since she's white and this is our first...
Now for another duckling colour question!
I had one little duck hatch out out of my eggs so far. Her father was a blue bibbed call and mother was either a pure white SQ call or lavender splash - don't know exactly who's eggs we collected.
She looks to be blue bibbed but she's much different...
I said I'd update you on how they turned out, and here I am! Since I lost Angel, my black bibbed, I can only show you my two blue bibbed but they turned out quite cute in my opinion.
I'm expecting more ducklings that one of these ducks fathered so I'll be posting pictures of them really soon!
Hi everyone,
I have two Call ducklings born 7 weeks ago. They are almost fully feathered and are beginning to quack. I’ve really enjoyed having them, I hatched them so they imprinted on me and because of that, we’ve got to do cool things like swimming together and going for picnics.
I’ve been...
I feel so touched by all of your kind words and your stories. You've made me feel less alone in this grief. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to share your experiences with me; I read them with my mom and we cried together over your lost babies and mine. :hugs
I want to...
