We got our first egg from our Marans on July 25th and at that point got them about every few days and slowly geared up to about every day or every other day. A little background first - I have 3 Golden Sexlinks and 2 Marans. They are all babies from this year. The exact age of the Marans is unknown to me but they are the oldest of the bunch and, at one point I know that at least one of them was laying but I don't know if both gals were ever laying...- PlatypusPerry

19 and a half weeks old and still no eggs :( egg countdown anyone??
Yay! I got my first egg today out of five gals! Two are a bit older. Unfortunately there was a hole pecked in it and I hope that isn't going to be a routine occurrence but maybe it was just a one time thing. We shall see. Perhaps it was an accident...who knows. But....YAY!- PlatypusPerry

You're right Deanna - it's not the dogs fault - it IS the owners (or breeders sometimes). They're just doing what they know. I was wondering if DH runs from the roo too...if he does he should definitely be standing his ground. By running - if he is - he would be showing the roo that he is...- PlatypusPerry

Yeah, when I bought my chicks I got a coupon for Purina and I signed up on Purina's site and get coupons occasionally - just gotta work the system LOL I bet there are even more out there. The feed store guy was shocked when he saw it like he'd never seen one before.- PlatypusPerry

I'd say it's soup time...I have zero tolerance for animals that threaten humans - regardless of their size which is why I can't stand nasty little chihuahuas (only the mean ones). Ugh.- PlatypusPerry

Correct. If it's a red sex link then the females are always a red in color and the males always a white in color. Do you know if that is a sex link for sure because even at birth the color difference is obvious so I always thought ordering or buying a sex link was pretty much a sure thing?- PlatypusPerry

My daughter would like a new chick of this breed, could you please help me with identification?
If it's a mix and you are looking to get a good chicken as a pet for your daughter you might want to look into breeds that are better at being held that way she can spend lots of time with her new friend.- PlatypusPerry
