A little background first - I have 3 Golden Sexlinks and 2 Marans.
They are all babies from this year. The exact age of the Marans is unknown to me but they are the oldest of the bunch and, at one point I know that at least one of them was laying but I don't know if both gals were ever laying.
The same goes with the sexlinks. I think the most eggs I had in any one day was two, however, they could have been alternating laying days so I don't really know for sure on that. The Marans I'm pretty sure just one was laying because the color of egg was always very consistent.
So - on average I got three eggs/day. One Marans and two sexlinks. Then that dwindled to just two eggs, then one...then none.
Then my husband and I put some orange LED rope light we had out there, set on a timer recently after the egg production went down and that started it back up to two eggs for one day but now I'm only getting one egg. A sexlink egg.
I really would like to be able to get a couple more eggs. I know I can't make them do anything but is there anything else I can do?
I give them layer feed, fresh greens, yummy leftovers from the kitchen, fruit, scratch, and plenty of fresh water.
I'm at a loss. I don't know if the supplemental light I'm providing is enough. Does color matter? Seems silly but it is orange...I didn't think they would care. I chose LED so that there would be no chance of fire.
