A little background first - I have 3 Golden Sexlinks and 2 Marans.

They are all babies from this year. The exact age of the Marans is unknown to me but they are the oldest of the bunch and, at one point I know that at least one of them was laying but I don't know if both gals were ever laying.

The same goes with the sexlinks. I think the most eggs I had in any one day was two, however, they could have been alternating laying days so I don't really know for sure on that. The Marans I'm pretty sure just one was laying because the color of egg was always very consistent.

So - on average I got three eggs/day. One Marans and two sexlinks. Then that dwindled to just two eggs, then one...then none.

Then my husband and I put some orange LED rope light we had out there, set on a timer recently after the egg production went down and that started it back up to two eggs for one day but now I'm only getting one egg. A sexlink egg.

I really would like to be able to get a couple more eggs. I know I can't make them do anything but is there anything else I can do?

I give them layer feed, fresh greens, yummy leftovers from the kitchen, fruit, scratch, and plenty of fresh water.

I'm at a loss. I don't know if the supplemental light I'm providing is enough. Does color matter? Seems silly but it is orange...I didn't think they would care. I chose LED so that there would be no chance of fire.

Me too!! I have the exact same problem sexlinks (thought they were supposed to be reliable layers)...feed them the same..spend plenty of time with them trying to make them happy... one egg yesterday and big round zero today...

How long have they been laying? If they have been laying less than a month they are still getting it in gear and may take days off.

I have 4 pullets who haven't started laying yet, one who came alone, is very shy and has not layed for us. I'm patient and am just waiting for their debut. However, my other 3 have been laying most every day for about 2 months now...guess we will all just keep hanging out, eating bugs...

We got our first egg from our Marans on July 25th and at that point got them about every few days and slowly geared up to about every day or every other day. The sexlink eggs came a bit later - the first one of those showed up sometime between aug9-14 (we were on vacation - a friend was gathering eggs so I don't know the exact date) and then, again, they started slow and picked up pace. First one hen then two.

Maybe they're just figuring things out still.

It just seemed like for awhile I had eggs out my ears and now my egg supply in my fridge is dwindling

I was going to post this same exact thing today. I have 3 Rhode Island Reds ~17 mo old, been laying like champs for the last year. About a month ago I took in 2 golden commets from a friend who moved. Age unknown but probably about the same age as mine. For a while I was getting a nice 4-5 eggs a day! That was a good looking nest. :) Now, just the golden commets are laying. Zippo from the RR. Should I be worried or is it normal for production to suddenly turn off in fall like that? I don't see any signs of moulting but I also haven't seen one before so not sure what I would see.

They all seem fine *except* one -- I will post separately.

I have the same problem with 4 hybrids aged about 26/27 weeks, they went up to 4 a day then dropped to 2 and now 1, they get layers pellets, greens, corn, bits and bobs of bread and treats, don't know if I have to stop layers pellets if they stop laying and just feed corn, they are happy and healthy and I need at least 3 eggs a day. Didn't think mine would moult this year being so young.
