    Barred Holland breed of chickens

One of the breed characteristics of the Barred Holland, is that the hens have a non-broody nature. Less broody=more eggs. Surrogate broody hens are a good option and I had a customer hatch eggs with a buff orpington quite successfully. Good luck with your hatch!

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

Hello, I have a person inquiring about purchasing two Barred Holland pullets. I am too far away to help, so does anyone raising BH, live near New Orleans, have pullets for sale? TIA

Ok, so I have been working on egg color and these are from our spring hatch girls. I like the size, color and shape. I've noticed the Gracie Mae line tends to be more linear vs round, so this is a nice hybrid. Anyone else have eggs we could compare?

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to let you know I had a calendar made of our special needs Barred Holland Rooster, Bob the Chicken. He was a very special boy, suffered from wry neck (from birth) but lived a full and active life anyway. He recently passed :( and this calendar is a celebration of...

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

We raised about 100 chicks this year, so I had about 50 cockerels to choose from. I looked for the SOP qualities, but also I wanted a boy that wasn't at the top of the pecking order. Our top rooster has a very nice temperament and I'm hoping that because "Junior" is used to being second...

I'm excited about this boy! He's 5 months old and the second generation from my Gracie Mae line. Great comb, feet, color...just waiting to see how big he gets. I'll be using him for next year's hatch.

The Barred Hollands don't tend to go broody, so if you are planning to breed, you'll need an incubator. Brinsea is a good brand. I get excellent hatch rates from mine.

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

Hello Everyone! So glad to hear the chick updates! I am plugging away over here, knee deep in chicks! I hatched out 100 this spring, held back two pullets and waiting to select a cockerel to breed my line for next year. With the roosters I'm selecting for size and conformation, so it...

    Barred Holland breed of chickens

Hi Nick, I'd suggest getting the Standards of Perfection before breeding, if you are looking to enhance the Barred Holland line. I believe the ALBC is asking us to selectively breed within the existing lines without introducing other breeds. We need to be careful what we are introducing, as...
