    Eggs breaking

Well I've finally got about 3 eggs from the 15 BRs. Chickens are scratching the hay out of the nesting box. Two of the three eggs were in the box and cracked. The third was laid by their food. Not sure how to keep the hay in or how to prevent the cracking. They get oyster shells so I'm not sure...

Barred rocks not laying yet. Any advice?

Have had 15 BR since first of April with 1 leghorn and have not seen any eggs yet. Is this normal? Also they are scratching the bedding out of the layer box. Should I make the edge a little taller? I'm getting frustrated and about ready to stick them in the freezer. Not want I want to do yet...

    Poop in nesting areas

My chickens are scratching the bedding that I put in the boxes. I too have seen some poop but not very much. I let them free range at times and as soon as I get knew bedding in there one of them runs in and scratches it out again. The boxes are lower than their roosts also. I'm lost for ideas also.

Chickens won't sleep in chicken tractor

Well. Really bad rain storm and the chickens still are not in the coop. They are all sitting on the perch on the outside of the coop. Silly chickens. My luck they will get sick. Great

Chickens won't sleep in chicken tractor

Had a down pour last night and those silly chicks still won't go in the coop section. They go in and out during the day but not at night. I'm lost. Anybody got any ideas? I'm still hoping they will figure it out. At this point I'm hoping by winter!

Worried about BYC! Anyone feel the same?

But the issue I have is that when I'm looking for new posts I don't want to see the jokes/games/etc. I want to learn and talk about chickens. I get frustrated when looking for new posts to see what others are doing and have to see the other stuff. I know it doesn't take long to go past it but it...

Hello Everyone, I am new to BYC looking forward to learning as much as I can.

I've heard that when they are about the same size then you can put them together. Also need to make sure that they can see each other but not come into contact for about a week or two. I've also heard that you should put them together at night when they are less active.

    green horn here (beginner)

I have a tractor with 8 birds. They eat the bugs and stomp the grass where I can't mow. I also have a coop with meat birds and layers. I too am new to chickens. If I were to do it again I would have made the tractor bigger to hold more birds. I don't like keeping them penned up in the coop but...

    Re-introducing hens

I have about 16 BR layers and I separated them about two weeks ago. 8 are in a chicken tractor and the others are in a coop. Can I combine them again? If so do I need to do this slowly or can I just combine again? Introducing new birds has been discussed but I am unsure about birds that were...

    Do I Really Need One

Do I need to have a rooster? What are the benefits (not having to buy chicks as often)? What are the negatives? I have 16 BR layers now. Any suggestions.
