i put the autoturner out of my hovabator inside. they are in the small trays in the bottom for hatching. the only thing i had to do was keep the water in the humidity pan. i havent put the pvc filler tube in it yet. as soon as these are done im gonna finish the bator.

well.... its hatching time and i have 30 baby quail so far out of my homemade bator. the eggs were put into the bator in 6 different groups. i had 30 hatch out of the first group and it was probably 35 in the group. the second set should start hatching tonight or tomorrow. after the first 2 they...
A little algae never hurt a chicken. In the warm months its going to happen. I rinse mine out once a week. Just because water is dirty doesn't mean it issnt clean drinking water. A little dirt in the water from a mud puddle is just clean water with a little dirt in it. Stagnant green water is...
Well, I havent totally finished my turner but i decided to take the bator for a test run on a small batch of quail and a couple chicken eggs. i put the auto turner from my hovabator inside and have about 100 quail eggs and 4 chicken eggs inside. the temps are very consistent. the humidity has...
nice looking birds. i just started raising quail about a month ago and i really like them. i bought 12 adults and the guy gave me a bunch of eggs. i ended up with 30 hatching and i have lost about 10 i think. good luck with your birds
not a lot of money tied up in it, just a little time building, and A LOT of time thinking about how to make it all work properly. its been fun. i might build a smaller one after this one is 100%
so far this is about what material is tied up in this thing....
1 sheet 3/4 CD EX plywood
4 cedar...
the heating is taken care of by 3 100w light bulbs and a gqf hovabator heater. it is all tied to a wafer thermostat and comes on all together.
the heat is circulated by the fan just above the heating area that blows down into it at all times and there is also another fan at the top to...
I found a little problem with the design. the 1x4 that holds the turner tray "axles" didnt allow the removable trays to be taken in and out. i had to put a smaller board horizontal for each tray instead of a single vertical board. i got it all caulked up on the inside and all the wired organized...
i ran the incubator yesterday and after it got up to temp i kept it on for 10 hours and it would get at low as 99.9 and as high as 100.1 as the thermo would kick on and off. i never saw it vary more than that. im gonna pull it all apart, caulk and insulate the rest of the inside and start on the...
i found 2 small 4" fans at walmart for $6 each. i put one pulling air from the heat chamber on the bottom and one in the top circulating air throughout. neither will be blowing hot air directly on the egg trays or hatching area. i have some final wiring to clean up the appearance of the power...
im swapping the water heater thermo out for a wafer out of my hovabator and im gonna put the heat element in there just cause i have it. the heat chamber is on the bottom, i have had really good luck so far maintaining temps evenly. im looking for a good fan right now, probably 2 actually. i...
This is after i put the thermostat in this evening. im slowly bumping it up at the light catches up. its a big incubator so it takes a little while to effect the temp. this one will require some good heatsinks and good weatherstripping on the doors. im right up around 95 or so right now...
i have been building a cabinet incubator for the last few weeks. i have gotten a lot of info from this site so i figured i should share the outcome of it here. it is nearing completion but i still need to buy the motor for my auto turner and make sure i have enough heat source to maintain my...
