    No Rooster, hens stop laying

Hi, I wouldn't worry too much yet. They may be about to get broody or about to molt. What you described about the eggs texture sounds a lot like one of my hens was laying just before she had a break to molt. I even had an egg layed without a shell (just membrane) some of my hens are just...

    Very Shy Chicken

Hi, I totally agree with Iceangel. Great advice. It may take a little time before you earn your chickens trust too so don't worry. I learned another way of taming flighty chickens just by chance. I had a really tame rooster. I mean really tame. He was a rooster I incubated for the first time and...

What sort of polish breed could this be?

Hi fellow chicken keepers. I need some help with the breed of this chick. I have 8 almost identical 3 1/2 week old chicks that were incubated. We got the eggs from a friend who claims they are houdans. I've seen the parents and they look very much like houdans with the double comb on the roo but...

    Sexing 'Australian' Araucanas

Hi Leeshajane. how are the chickens going? I've got a flock of aussie araucanas. I'm from northern Victoria. Nice to meet another Australian on here :) They are definitely very hard to sex for me. Until about 12-16 weeks I start to notice "back feathers" of the pullets start to become round...

    Are small incubators better.

I have been mad on hatching chickens for about 18 months now since I moved to an acreage. I started with a very small incubator for 12 eggs. You can actually only fit nine in confidence that they won't jam while rotating though. Anyway of course it wasn't long before I wanted a bigger incubator...

    Rhode Island Red? Gender?

Do you have other older hens and roos you can have a look at for comparison? They do look more rounded.

    Rhode Island Red? Gender?

Sorry,I can't tell from the pic...not close enough. They're the feathers just above the tail I was talking about. Anyway if you have another hen and rooster to compare the feathers you'll pick it straight away..the cockerels saddle feathers are pointier. I've got 30 odd mixed breed hens and...

    Rhode Island Red? Gender?

Are the saddle feathers rounded or pointed? Pullets have rounded saddle feathers or back feathers. I have a pullet and cockerel.

candling pics what you think im completely new to this.

Hi Punky1991, hmmm, going by my little bit of experience I've had incubating three times last year that egg at 11 days should be much more developed. I can definitely see something though. How many eggs are you trying to hatch? It's so exciting watching eggs develop :) best of luck.
