Hi Guys! Very long story short, had an emergency and had to bring my birds inside....I've always kept them in the sunshine and fresh air so this has been horrid. Right now they are on my wood floors with sheets of thick plastic and a lot of bedding...hay etc...I need a better solution. I don't...

    Poop

Oh I just love the stuff! I thank my birds for pooping! Into a fifty gallon plastic garbage can that is full of worms and like magic, beautiful black sweet stuff that makes my potatoes grow to the size of bowling balls....if you don't garden yourself I'll bet you can easily find someone who...

    Quail feed

We finally got a tractor supply here in No Cal and they only carried it for about the first couple months, apparently I was the only one buying it. I suggest going to a local feed store and talking to someone, if they know you will be a regular customer they will stock it for you, it's what...

Can quail have too much space?

I have predators here that make a good mesh floor a necessity! I found that a soft plastic coasted mesh keeps out the bad guys but doesn't bug my birds, having said that, I also cover a large area with grasses etc so they aren't on the mesh all the time. Use a really heavy duty staple gun...

    Quails using ramps

Make sure the ramp is wide enough, they don't like seeing over the edges, little handrail type wood edges work well....I've had to install those when I've had daredevils that like to fly off ! Also, little treads are very much appreciated.

Myths of quail egg health benefits

I've actually been studying this for years... there are amazing research findings! A paper out of Scotland a few years ago had some pretty remarkable things to say about the health benefits overall. Protein especially has been studied extensively. As to allergies, I'm living proof. I've...

Thinking of getting into quails any tips?

I would definably say yes to quail! I love mine so much for so many reasons...the health benefits of the eggs are amazing. Studies are being done all over the world and we are learning new things all the time. I started raising them because the man in my life almost died from a heart problem...

Had two of my quail get free.

Oh I love it when they know how to do that! My doxie cross could keep one immobilized long enough for me to grab it by running around them in a circle and using her chin to tap them on the head. Luckily she didn't like the taste, the few times she instinctively grabbed one in her mouth she...

    Quail for eggs only?

Quail are wonderful! They lay like crazy and they are just a whole lot of fun. I've been raising for eggs only for almost eight years now. Really the trick is to have a plan for all those Roos! I have some in my greenhouse and I offer them as greenhouse pets to other people in the area...
