    Lash egg?

Thanks. I’ll look tomorrow, they’re all asleep now…didn’t see anyone looking weird today. Sad :(

    Lash egg?

Found this in the coop tonight. Is this a lash egg? I think it must be. I wish I knew who laid it but I don’t. Firm, waxy outside.

    Shell-less, strange flat egg?

Ok, that's helpful to know. I think they are about five pounds each, one of them might be a little heavier. I'm not sure why they stopped laying. They might be molting a bit—one of my males is molting hardcore right now? It isn't winter. I guess it's possible one of them is still laying and the...

    Shell-less, strange flat egg?

Do you think it would be safe to give both of my girls calcium gluconate, given that I have no eggs over the past week or so other than the 2-3 soft-shelled ones? I suspect the soft shells are all from one duck, but I'm not sure. Since I don't know which duck is laying the soft-shelled eggs...

    Shell-less, strange flat egg?

Can you post a link to the pure flake oyster shells? I ordered some flaked oyster shell on Chewy, but it seems to be a mix of clam and coral just like the kind I've gotten from Tractor Supply.

    Shell-less, strange flat egg?

Ok, cool. It's weird, every single time I've ever tried to get them to eat crushed oyster shell on the side, they've never gone for it. I'll give it another try because I think that's the best method, to let them determine how much calcium they need. I've bought the stuff from tractor supply...

    Shell-less, strange flat egg?

Hey all, Last night as I was putting my two female ducks away in their house for the evening I found this on the ground in the straw. I think the white spots/'crust' around the edges were mould?—it was near a spot where they'd been doing a lot of digging and kicking up, and we've just had a...

Cracked/bleeding bill and skin near eye -- frostbite or dry skin, or something?

Thanks for your kind words. Peaches was wonderful. I hope he'll be on the mend soon, too, and I hope things start to stabilize around a normal winter temperature around here -- it makes it so hard on them when the temp flip flops from 20 to -20 in the space of several days (we have one day next...

Cracked/bleeding bill and skin near eye -- frostbite or dry skin, or something?

Me too—it's the worst. When we love our all of our pets it's so tough to see them bothering each other—all we want is for them to get along and be happy. This week has been a little bit of a duck nightmare with everything going on! I have one pen divided in half, with three females on one side...

Cracked/bleeding bill and skin near eye -- frostbite or dry skin, or something?

Hey everyone, thanks for your responses and sorry for my delay! I took him to the vet yesterday, and the vet thinks it's a sinus infection, so he gave me an antibiotic ointment to put on his eyes and bill, and a liquid antibiotic. However, I think it's being exacerbated by bullying -- I'm just...

Cracked/bleeding bill and skin near eye -- frostbite or dry skin, or something?

Hi everyone, I live in upstate NY (as in really upstate), so it gets very very cold here. My drakes in particular have had peeling skin on their bills for a few months, but it always looked very normal to me so I didn't worry about it very much -- just normal shedding dead skin-cells type of...

Lighting for duck houses? (not for egg purposes!)

Thank you for your response! I do have exactly 3 in each coop. I live in northern/upstate NY (like, actually upstate, a short ways from Canada) so it gets VERY cold here. For that reason I actually wouldn't want to increase the no. of square feet per duck, because I think they wouldn't be able...

Lighting for duck houses? (not for egg purposes!)

Hey all. Wondering if anyone has good suggestions for what kind of lights they use in their duck houses. Mine are small -- two 4x3 (I think) dog-house-style structures. The reason I want lighting is actually because I want them to feel comfortable going inside during the day if they want to...

    Keeping the pen clean?

Hey everyone, I just wondered what everyone's strategies were to keeping their duck pens/runs clean. I keep my ducks in pens rather than free-ranging them because they're pets and I don't want to worry about predators, etc. etc. The pens are smaller than I'd like because of space...

Lethargic hen, unhealthy poop, strange growth near vent? [pictures]

So sorry for such a huge delay in my response! She has actually been perfectly fine since that day. We noticed a few hens were acting lethargic so we started treating for mites. I'm not sure if mites was the actual problem or not, but everyone seems OK for now, aside from one who seems to be...
