I'm in Great Falls/Craig area and I have loads of roosters. Anybody needing a nice fella for your gals? If not I have to talk the kids into eating some "friends". LOL!

    Diatomaceous Earth granules?

Ok, I'll see about taking it back. Where can I get the right stuff? I was told to check the garden shop at ACE by the people at our local Big R store. We get all our critters stuff there, but they had nothing.

    Diatomaceous Earth granules?

I'm a little confused. If it is 100% DE, just in larger chunks how would it be harmful?

    Diatomaceous Earth granules?

I found some diatomaceous earth, but in granule form. It does say "100% diatomaceous earth" on the bag. So, there is no silicone or other stuff. But it was not food grade. Is this still ok for the chickens who are now 10-11 weeks old?

    Lost our first....

Quote: So that's 4 sq ft per bird? I just checked a coccidia post and it showed the same exact posture of my birds! Now to make sure it doesn't spread!

    Lost our first....

Woke to another gone. We loaded everyone up and got down to the land ASAP. They were doing good, save about 5 that didn't look too hot. I did see two that pooped some bloody poops! Coccidia?? So I'm guessing I need to go back to medicated chick starter! I came back tonight and the rest of...

    Lost our first....

Quote: Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. We're heading out with all in tow! The others are doing fine so far today. We plan to have most, if not all of the coop built late today. If not then they will camp over night with llamas standing guard around the portable brooder. Do you...

    Lost our first....

Having 77 so far we had been doing great. But the llama shed we planned to convert to a coop broke during the move. So we are a week behind in getting the chickens into their new digs. So far they have been in a 6ft by 14 ft brooder and doing fine. Today I found one listless and her eyes were...

Quote: Don't Cuckoos lay really dark eggs? That would be something to see if it's a mix!

    Free ranging on 20 acres?

Quote: i have no where near that many, but i still have to count them by color. it makes getting a head count when they are all on the move a whole lot easier! I kinda do that with my herd animals! I say 4 goats, 3 sheep, my Oregon girls, the big boys, the mama llamas, June Bug and Crabby...

    Free ranging on 20 acres?

Quote: At this time they are in our large brooder in our garage...which is shrinking daily!! A coop and run will be a new experience. Outdoors an even bigger one! I plan to let them chill in the coop and run for a good few days to two weeks depending on how they are dealing with it all. We...

    Free ranging on 20 acres?

Hi, I'm a newbie and have a few questions about free ranging. Our chickens are nearly 6-7 weeks old, there are 77. We also have 9 llamas, 4 goats and 3 sheep. They have all done well with wild geese and pheasants on our other pasture. So I believe they will be accepting of the chickens. We plan...
