    PEAFOWL eggs! -wanted- Florida

I did! There is a lady in Havana Florida who has them. Mine actually just hatched and are BEAUTIFUL. I just got an assortment from her and ended up with a spaulding and a white. Only 2 of my 4 hatched, but it was my fault. I had some incubator issues. Her email is: [email protected]...

Need brooder ideas for housing 6 meat birds.....

I know PVC was already mentioned but I'm going to remention it because it rocks. :-) I had 25 CxR's last year and made an outdoor run for them and they THRIVED. (I still have one thats 7+months old ) Use PVC to frame it and secure bird netting around the outside to keep them in. Mine...

    Broody Hen's Eggs Just Drowned!!!!!!

The hen knows better than any of us. Especially if this isnt her first rodeo... I have seen hens continuously kick eggs out of their nest, mark them, and it always be the same egg. So I guess she knew it was bad... Hopefully she has reason to believe they'll be okay.

    bakers dozen

Age difference isnt as big of a problem with chicks as it is with some other poultry as long as the younger ones have access to food and water as well and can escape the bigger ones if they need to... Or you could always jerry-rig a divider into your brooder to seperate them Congrats on the...

    chick bedding to use

Its only a problem if they eat a lot and get compacted. Grit helps with this. They are going to peck at/eat anything you put them on, including paper towels.

    Shhh...don't tell

A good way to prevent this is to keep them seperated for a few weeks but where they can see each other and interact. I have a little "chicken nursery" in my coop. Its a 5x5 area that seperated by chicken wire and framed with 2x4s. So all the chickens get to know each other before theyre let...

    Bringing Home the Babies

I have about 40 acres that I rent.... and my land lord is a lush. He always thinks hes going crazy when he shows up and theres a couple more critters running around. We never asked permission just kinda built a coop and started doing our thing... He hasnt had a foul word to say yet. I've...

    Chickens hurt while being shipped

I had some chicks like this in an order a while back. Put some gatorade in their water, it will help him regain his strength if hes just exhausted or malnourished. With one of mine I had to sit with him for ages and keep dipping his beak in the gatorade water to keep him drinking it. But he...

    fertility

I usually keep about a 4:1 ratio of hens to Roo's. I keep as many Roo's around as possible without them fighting over the girls. It works great for me. I have excellent fertility and a happy flock. HOWEVER: My birds all free range, in a situation where the Roo's were closed into close...

    What is the best way?

My only suggestion is using a brighter light. I use a highpowered LED flashlight for my brown eggs. I made a cone for it out of a couple sheets of thick paper and some duct tape so it focuses the light into an area about the size of a nickel... Works pretty well.
