Rooster's Got Talent -- PRIZES To Be Won!

Here's my Shimmie, taken earlier today (he'd just heard his new ladies, who are still in quarantine).

    Freeloaders getting closer?

Yay! They're such pretty ladies, though!!

Best ideas for low maintenance coop?

I'm a newbie, but make it as big as possible and don't overload it (mine's 12x12 for 7 chickens).

ISO: Companion (or laying) hens N FL

Hello! Looking for a few hens to hang out with my lonely roo. Since I don't need the eggs, I'd happily consider older ladies who are slowing down in their egg production. Maybe you need some more room in your flock? I'm in north FL, and willing to drive at least a couple hours. Thanks for...

    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Hey neighbors! I've recently split one of my cockerels out from the flock because he was beating up on the other cockerel. Shimmie has his own secure 8x12 bachelor pad, but he paces most of the day. I'd like to find him a few (preferably bossy) hens as companions. Anyone looking to re-home a...

    Experiences With Hoop Coops?

Thank you! I'd originally wanted it moveable, but the design kept getting heavier, so it's staked. :)

    Lock for the run door

Yeah, yikes! I'd totally lock myself in with one of those, and would be in trouble. I use a sliding latch secured with a carabiner. And a hook and eye on the inside.

    Experiences With Hoop Coops?

I recently completed my bachelor pad hoop coop, and really like it so far! It was relatively inexpensive and easy to build, and seems sturdy enough. The ventilation is great, though I'll likely have to add a tarp during our rainy months. I plan to add a shutter to that back window so that I...

    Cockerel living situation

Thank you! I was hesitating and feeling a bit guilty about moving him, but after watching him pick on *everyone* this evening, he was lucky that he only got moved. 😉 Darn testosterone.

    Cockerel living situation

More mellow roosters sounds wonderful! I'll stay hopeful. They sure are fun to look at, those handsome boys!

    Cockerel living situation

Shimmie's new digs are almost done! Still need to build a shutter for that back window. Total overkill if it's just going to be one cockerel, but I guess that gives me options for the future, haha! (All covered with 1/2" hardware cloth, with an apron)

    Cockerel living situation

That makes a lot of sense - thank you! Good to know there are multiple options. I appreciate you sharing your experiences!

    Cockerel living situation

Thank you for your thoughts! He wouldn't be far at all from the main flock, could definitely see them. I may try this first, and see how it goes. Was a bit tempted to put a few of the pullets in with him, but am worried he'd be too hard on them. So, we'll see!
